Intake Muffler

I have a question for anyone who has owned an R1200S and upgraded to the HP2S.

Have you bothered to look inside your intake muffler (air filter box) or remove one of the suction pipes yet to see if the air horns are any different between models?

I am curious to know if BMW changed the design between the R1200S and the HP2S. The air box P/Ns are different but that does not necessarily mean that the parts are.

I have not heard much about any HP2S riders adding boxer burners to their bikes so one would assume BMW increased the ID of the air horns.

If someone familiar with both bikes could post a comment regarding the comparison that would be great.

Thanks -

In search of more power BMW did in fact change the intake on the HP2S. Thus the boxerburners developped for the R1200S are not applicable for the HP2S. But I have heard that the developper of the boxerburners did also make some for the HP2S (as he is riding a HP2S on the race track (with 162 HP).

I believe an HP2S airbox would fit an R12S and would provide more cross sectional diameter, keeping in mind that intake diameter and velocity are inversely correlated all other things being equal. i.e if you put an HP2S airbox on a stock R12S it is likely your air velocity could decrease and potentially could result in a loss of power unless other measures were taken. I have inquired about the BB for my HP2S and Rika thinks that I will need to increase my oil flow if I go for any additional HP gains. I guess that is the next project!
