shorter mirror stems?
I recently acquired an 1100S and was wondering if there are shorter mirror stems available that would position the mirrors so that the rider can see below the hands instead of looking past the elbows. The RTs have the fairing mounted mirrors set up that way and I really like that better than the tall stems on the S.

Not sure how shorter stems would get the mirrors below your hands. I think you would need to change the angle of the stem. How about switching to bar ends and capping off the stock attachment points?
Or you can get the OEM mirrors that attach at the brake and clutch reservoirs. |

The mirrors don't have to be below the hands. They just need to be low enough that the reflection angle allows you to look under you hands. On the RTs they are in the back of the turn signal housings so you see a line just below your hands. In the case of the S, the back of the turn signal housing is blocked from view by my hands, but I think placing mirrors just above and slightly in front of the turn signals will allow a similar line of sight. I plan to experiment with an extra mirror glass from and RT.
I'm just not very fond of the visual of the mirrors sticking up so high like Mickey Mouse ears and would prefer a bit cleaner, more compact look. hmmmmm. after thinking this over; and sitting on the RT then the S, I realized the mirrors probably do need to be slightly lower than the hands in order to see straight back. Otherwise one would be looking at the pavement way too close behind to do much good. The good news is that if I can find some low profile ovals that I can mount right above the turn signals, I will still accomplish the goal I'm after. ![]() In the meantime, if anyone has done this or seen it done; I'd appreciate a heads up. I gave some thought to the bar-end options but having just completed a short ride and visualizing bar-ends; I'd prefer not to have to turn my head that much to look behind me. With the mirrors where they are currently or with them right above the turn signals, I can keep my head straight and simply cut my eyes side to side to see what I need to.
