Need 103mm gaskets

The Wossner distributor in the US, Karl Poeltl was supposed to come up with gaskets for me to match the 103mm pistons I ordered from him. He was very responsive about the pistons but I've emailed him several times over the past few weeks about the gaskets now that I have paid for the pistons and, well, crickets.

If you've bought 103mm gaskets here in the US, let me know where you got them from.

Thanks.

You can get custom gaskets from Cometic.

Thanks

Found them in another thread. Any idea of the cost?

Does Cometic (Cometic Custom Gaskets) make this gasket or are thinking of asking them to make them? I'm interested either way. There are several other copper head gasket makers out there as well.

cometic cost

Cometic doesn't make these. The tooling cost for the triple metal ones like come with the original is $1000. So it's out of the question. Fiber ones are about $40 each. Copper is probably about the same but I didn't ask specifically.

I'm trying to source some 103mm from Germany with no luck so far.

I think Sofatester once told me these gaskets from Germany are 103.5mm overbore gaskets. Have you checked with our German members?

Gaskets

I've made contact with some guys in Germany who say they can and will supply them. I called them and they said no problem. However, they haven't gotten off their butt yet and done it (I'm sure it's more important to me than them.).

Once I'm successful in definitely getting them, I will get back to you. I hope to get them on the way this week. If not I will bug them again.

The US Wossner distributor is checking with Wossner in Germany also.

Don't hold your breath....

Wossner is the only manufacturer of the 103.5mm multilayer gaskets, whoever you are getting them from doesn't matter they will be Wossner products. If you look at my HP2S big bore thread I give the part number, try the US importer and if they can't get em, then you can either wait for some German to get off his ass, or get the gaskets from Cometic. They have been making them for a long time, I was going to use them, but at the last minute scored a set of the Wossners. If you send Cometic the stock 101mm gasket they can copy it perfectly in Aramid fiber with the 103 bore for about $100. http://www.cometic.com/custom-gaskets.aspx Your choice and my $0.02

I actually recall it was $80 for the pair, but you should reach and ask for a quote.

Thanx, I'll check it out. I'm also looking to see how big a bore can be done with some mods if I can make time to finishing taking one of my engine cases apart. I have an idea to go beyond 103.5mm I want to check out for feasibility. However I need to finish fixing my sport tourer I wrecked last year so I'm ready for bike week.

Back when BMW was developing the R1200CL series of cruiser style of motorcycles they had a 1400cc version of the Boxer engine in development, never came to production however in the world of 1600cc and above twin cruisers.

Stock for the DOHC : 73 mm x 101 mm x 2 = 1170 ccm

Tune for the DOHC : 76 mm x 106 mm x 2 = 1340 ccm

fralind - 2 questions - can the R1200S engines go to 106mm or only the HP2S cases? How do they get from 73mm to 76mm stroke on the crank?

Incidentally

Incidentally the Roesner and Rose gaskets are the tri-metal type like the originals.

106 mm for the DOHC engines, not for the OHV engines.

How do they get from 73mm to 76mm stroke on the crank?

Yes , with a new crank. But fits in both engine types

(125 mm rods and pistons for 128 mm rod )

gaskets are the tri-metal type like the originals.

These are the orginal 101 mm , only the laser cut to 103 mm

Fralind - I've read you can overbore the HP2S cases/cylinders more than the OHV R1200 engines. Can you overbore the dual overhead cams R engines to 106mm? How much can you overbore the OHV?

Who makes the crank? How much?

Anyone adding 3rd main bearings to the cases to put a main crank bearing between each rod journal?

Thanx in advance

Fralind - cool pic. Found something just like this on Boxertrix last year. Had the idea myself. I still think it can be done but haven't had the time to work on it (too many projects and I work too damn much).

You said "tried", means it didn't work? Has anyone tried it on the older R259 engines?

I see from R&R's site they lighten their lifter buckets the same way I do. I have a machinist working a couple of sets right now and have a set of lightened ones in a bike now. I had a lot of trouble with getting around on R&R's site, perhaps it's not Mac friendly. If they make Titanium valve adjusters (BBPower used to have them but Bernhard has retired), can you point me to them on Edelweiss's site?

Anyone make lighter rocker arms or push rods?

Thanx for the follow-up,
