To The Forum,
Hopefully you can help. The tow on the weekend was embarrassing. But I have a 2007 R1200s. Here's the scenario for the issue: After a lunch stop, I experienced a weird electrical cut out of the bike. When the bike had the wheel turned to the side, it would start when in neutral. As soon as the handle bars were straightened, the electrical would cut out. (instrument panel would shut down / turn off - kill the engine). After some fiddling, I was initially thinking it was a loose connection, as when jiggling the ring aerial / Ignition wires seemed to allow the connection. But when removing and reconnecting each, the bike went completely dead. I had a basic tool kit with me, but nothing that would help with trouble shooting / fixing the cause. Has anybody else experienced this type of electrical issue? Would this be a loose connection, or is it likely something related to the neutral kill switch? Or could this be related to the key switch? Any suggestions to trouble shoot would be appreciated. Also, want to make sure that it isn't anything potentially worse than a loose connection. |

Pull the side panels off and start looking for the issue, it sounds like a lose or broken connection. I don't think the Neutral switch has anything to do with it. You are losing all power, correct? When you have power does the neutral light function properly?

sounds like ignition switch if it turns everything off,
which ignition wire? the ring will keep it from running but the instruments will stay on. |

Do a search for this thread "R1200S Ignition Failure" and read it, It may help, the wires in the bundle under the upper triple clamps about 6 inches to the left of the ignition switch are in a tight spot and stretch until they break and are known to fail. Happened to mine with the same symptoms. Just died and by moving the bars a little it would start then die, and the instruments would light up then go dead. Cheap easy fix if thats what it is.

Thanks everyone,
To brent1w - I didn't think that it was the Ring Antenna, but figured I'd mention it as well. Thanks for the clarification. To AZtwin - Neutral was just a symptom. But would only show Neutral light / "N" when the handlebars were to the left. After I removed and reconnected the Ring Antenna connector, the system went completely dead, no response. By that time, the tow truck had arrived, so just put all the panels back and got it on the trailer. To cantfish - will check the subject and see if I can find any other potential sources of the problem. Hopefully I'll get it sorted by the weekend as need to take advantage of the nice weather while it's here in Ontario. Will repost when it's running again with the resolution. Cheers, |

For Reference - Ring Antenna Explanation
Not sure if it was posted in a prior thread. EWS — HEX Code This outlines the Ring Antenna issue and explains how to fix / diagnose the issue. Cheers,
