Wecome S1000RR drivers and maintainers

I woke up to a surprise addition from Wayne to the High Performance HP2 forum. Things have been quiet around here but I think the horsepower just went up. I'll be busy getting more data on the S1000RR for old pelicans and the new ones that will be seeking to roost with fellow owners to discuss the new addition to the BMW race stable.

Well, I'll be damn, good show.

Hopefully less negativity, my glass is always half full, not half empty.

Thanks! I guess I can start reading Pelican again. You rock Bubba.
Just ordered an S1000RR from Chicago BMW, maybe no more trackdays for the R12S.

Thanks for coming back and congratulations on the pending delivery. I can't wait to hear the ride reports from street pilots.

Steve, I hope you'll consider running the new S1000RR down to the Bikehaus in Tryon, NC in April. There will be a group on Pelicans there that would love to here one of us talk about and see the Rice Crusher in action. The event is the Eastern Continental Divide Run Spring Thaw. It will preceed the Georgia Mountain Rally in Hiawassee, GA the first weekend in May.

TM, sorry about the get-off on the K-bike. Das/Der whatever. Steve, I'm about 44 miles from Asheville. Do you get down there?

Four Pelicans on at the same time. I think that's a record. Hope it's a sign that business is picking up.

A little info from my 1216 mile ride

Some statistics on the new RR after my 1216 mile ride:
1216 miles ridden, half freeway half twisty (hiway 1 between carmel and morro bay. ca, and backroads of santa barbara county)
14 hours saddle time
86.857 miles per hour average speed (whoops)
31.622 gallons of premium fuel consumed
38.454 miles per gallon
$3.302 per gall......on average cost
$101.29 total cost of fuel
I like this bike!

This post deserves a spot by itself, a new thread.

I love the color, especially in that setting (from your other post). I think I recognize that stretch of road. Are you not going to say that it has too much 'this' or not enough 'that'?

Great report. It gives me the impression that you are excited. Good for you!!! Keep us up to date as you rack up those miles.

Richard

I have only found one thing to be "critical" of and it is minor...when riding at pace it is difficult to see the difference between "rain" and "race" on the mode indicator. There is no problem when selecting different modes as they are listed on the left side in order, but once you have made the selection it appears singularly on the right. If you don't remember what mode you were in last time you made a change the words race and rain appear quite similar whereas "sport" and "race/slick" are distinct. They should have come up with a six letter word for race...something like "OH****"
Otherwise the bike is quite comfortable even for my 6'3" frame. The seat/foot position is very balanced which forces you to engage core musculature so that weight on hands is eliminated. My right hand got tired from hanging on...but there was no pain.
I purchased a set of Kreiga soft bags for it which work great, allowing me to use as a sport tourer if I so choose.
I also installed an autocom with the kenwood 3110 radio in the tail section which had plenty of space available for it. I will be leading a 12 bike tour at the end of April and like to be able to communicate road/pavement/traffic conditions as well as CHP presence to the other riders.
