Loud noise

I was driving home this afternoon and I started hearing this loud noise coming from the back which sounded like a belt or a belt pulley. It lasted for about 5 to 10 seconds and then it was gone. I drove for another 30 minutes til I got home but never heard it again. Actually, I'm not even sure if it was coming from me or from another car near me on the freeway but I sort of got spooked by it. Any insight, advice or suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

You have two idler pulleys on the front of your engine.

You can access the belt and check the pulleys this way:

Remove carpet on rear firewall, remove 10 nuts\bolts on access panel. (Careful, edges are sharp)

You can see the belts and pulleys - check the tow idler pulleys for wear.

By the way, if say one of the idler pulleys went bad, wouldn't that sound be there all the time and wouldn't my idling go haywire? Thanks in advancd!
