Changing the exhaust on my '99 -- can I?
I have a '99 Boxster with stock exhaust. It would be nice to have a litte deeper tone. A friend has offered me his '03 S stock exhaust. I know it is not a direct fit -- but I have been told it can be fitted.
Questions: Is there any possible damage to the engine or loss of HP? Will I indeed enjoy a nicer tone? Thanks for your thoughts. -gene

I think you are going to do a lot of work with the possibility of the exact same tone, what makes you think the stock s muffler will be throatier? My 2 cents, I put a Dansk Stainless on my 98 and it sounds awesome, to me anyway. There is also a thread in here on how to mod a stock muffler to be louder with two bypass pipes added, check it out..

I read somewhere that Porsche made a purposeful change to the exhaust tone on the 2003 S model.

Yes; it's really quiet, instead of really, really quiet. If you want more sound, you'll need to mod your existing muffler or go aftermarket. I chose to put a modded factory muffler on my S and it sounds great (along with the EVO Hi Flow intake).
