Porsche Crest BSR Roll Cage

By a twist of good fortune it seems as though I have an extra Boxster.

The plan is to slowly make it into a Boxster Spec Racer. In addition to the IMS bearing, I need a roll cage. Are there any companies that sell a quality pre-fab weld in roll cage?

Found a couple in the UK, but nothing on this side of the globe.

TIA,

Michael

Hmm, the only one I've seen up close is this one, and it's custom made. The problem is that you need to remove a lot of the interior and the roof - these aren't too popular except for the spec racers.

That would be exactly what I'm looking for if it were available as a kit. As I mentioned, I found a couple of UK sites that sell cages, but none in the states. I'm going to be removing much of the interior and dash (temporarily) anyway, so installing a weld in cage seems to be the right way to go.

We have several shops here in Minnesota that will custom fab a cage, but I was hoping to hold the cost down and maybe get a better fit by purchasing a weld together kit.

I would have suggested AutoPower, (Autopower Industries - Roll Cages), but they don't seem to have them for the Boxster. Maybe they are in development, as I would think this would be a good market. You might want to give them a ring.

All of the spec boxsters I have seen have done custom cages. I'm surprised the cage above doesn't have the diagonal in the main hoop down to the floor. I'd also want a knee bar behind the dash.

I'm not sure you would save that much. A weld-in Safety devices cage (for a 911) was close to $2000 last time I checked, and I don't think the tubing is pre-notched, so there is still alot of fabricating and fitting.

Safety Devices makes a bolt-in roll cage for the 986, see the product page at Stable Energies. I'm fairly certain this can be used for PCA Club Racing (a friend used one in an F class Boxster S for a while), but check with your local organization.

As has been said before, the vast majority of Spec Boxsters seem to have welded-in custom cages.

Yes, I would have thought that the diagonal would be required also.

Makes for some difficult decisions though for us tall folks. I need every inch of leg room I can get. A diagonal would have to intrude into the space between the back of the seat and the firewall. Not sure how to work through that and comply with the rules.

One can never have too many Boxsters. I predict they will eventually be like the 914, where every owner has one good car and one parts car to feed the beast!
