GT3 Console Install + 997 shifter Install

Thanks to Wayne's instructions and photos, I corrected the one major complaint I had with my Boxster S. I am 6'2" but have long legs and I just could not find a comfortable position for my right leg. To reach the gas pedal, my leg ended up wedged between the lower console and the steering wheel. I actually had to move the steering wheel as close to me as possible to get my foot on the pedal at all. It was not a ideal driving position. I searched and read through several threads about this mod and I decided to give it a try. I ordered the GT3 console kit and pulled my old console out. Since I had to remove the center console as well, I took some time to scuff off the flaking coating on the black part.

While I had it out, I decided to replace the shifter assemble with a 997 unit. I bought a new one and it went in with Wayne's instructions in about 30 minutes. Very easy and a huge improvement. My stock shifter had 130K worth of wear and was pretty sloppy. The 997 shifter is about 15-20% shorter throws and feels great.

It GT3 console pieces were easy to install as well. I had the Bose sound processor in the loser console, so I relocated it by running the wire towards the front of the car and tucking the processor behind the carpeted part of the GT3 console. I can slide it out if I feel like changing the settings, but I doubt I ever will.

The new set-up looks clean, just like a GT3! The best part it that my right leg has all the room it needs! I can bend my knee and let my leg relax towards the center of the car. I can move the steering wheel forward so my arms can extend comfortably. I still wish I had 3" more leg room, but since that isn't a realistic option, this is a great solution. Now doing my 90 mile daily drive is far more enjoyable

Thanks Wayne

Did the same thing (the console delete). Helped immensely with the legroom. Also a nice place to mount the GPS!
