2000 Boxter
Engine started with a squeek and intermittent oil light flashing. Squeek continues intermittently while driving. After some research, thought it may be AOS. However, pulled oil cap while running, no excess vacuum, and engine idle dropped appropriately. Does this still sound like the AOS? Or is this another issue? Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

If the oil light is flashing I'd check the oil pressure with a guage or pull the oil filter to see if there is any garbage in it. I would not drive the car until the issue is diagnosed as the light is flashing due to low pressure.

Yes but is it loose? My '99 manual says a flashing oil light is a reason to not drive the car and I would think an intermittent one would fall in the same category. I can't think of anything else except what has already been suggested except possibly the oil sending unit.

Squeek continues intermittently while driving.
We need more on this. Under what conditions? Answer and the pundits will narrow this down.

For what its worth I remember years ago a friend of mine ran across this and it was a broken spring in the oil pressure relief valve
