Alternative to Curil-T

What does everyone recommend as an alternative to Curil-T?

I did not order it from Wayne with the rest of my parts because ground shipping would have taken too long from CA to GA. I have called 2 Porsche parts suppliers locally, a Porsche Dealership, a BMW Dealership, and a Mercedes dealership --- they are all out. In fact, the Mercedes dealership said no Mercedes dealership in the state had it in stock. I even thought about calling Flat6 but I wouldn't be able to make it there until tomorrow at 4:30 or so and they will certainly be closed.

The BMW dealer recommended Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket #3 and a friend of mine recommended HondaBond ... what do you all think?

Curil-T seems to be a highly specialized sealant, what do you need it for?

Where exactly are you using sealant on a M96 rear main seal?

Wayne's instructions say to coat the outside with Curil-T and I've been told to coat the inside with oil. If it's unnecessary, then I won't bother with sealant at all.

Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Clutch Replacement - 986 / 987 See Figure 10.

I figure if people actually used Curil-T then it would be available from SOMEBODY especially considering how much of these RMS seals have been swapped.

If you have the Porsche RMS install tool they recommend not putting anything on the seal. If you don't have that tool any light weight, non-hardening sealant will help the RMS slide into place. You might find Curil-T description online & compare to sealants available to you locally. Patience!!

If you are installing the current factory seal 997 101 121 01 it must be installed dry.
The inside has a protective sleeve to stop anything (or anyone) touching it untill pressed into the crankcase.

I still think a bit of the Curil-T cannot hurt on the installation. I've been recommending this for years on the early Porsches, BMWs, and now the later water-cooled cars. No one seems to have a problem if they follow the instructions (100K+ books sold). So, I know what works. If you use a different sealant, then I'm not sure...

I ordered the most recent seal (along with a clutch kit and IMS bearing) from Wayne, but adding Curil-T to the order would have required ground shipping, which would not have arrived in time.

I'd normally follow Wayne's advice. HOWEVER, considering how my flywheel is off and I'll be getting started in the next few minutes, I'll just make an installation tool and leave off the sealant. I figure this is (at the least) better than leaving the factory seal in there. I'll just be careful to clean the surfaces well and take my time.

Normally I would have ordered parts sooner but I was waiting until I got the transmission off to be sure what IMS bearing I had.
