I am looking to purchase a 2002 Boxter S with 131,000 miles. Should I assume the IMS has already been changed? What is the life expectancy of a boxter engine? Are there any with 200,000 miles?

The life of an engine depends on the maintenance. If you want to be on the safe side do the bearing

With more than 260k miles on them, yes. With 200k and used monthly on the racetrack.

NO. Also, it's Boxster, not Boxter.

Depending on service intervals, a 97-99 Boxster motor can easily go 200K, even with the original IMS bearing. If you don't have a receipt showing it was done, it wasn't.

Ims
LN, provides a special sticker that's applied upon repair. You might see one!
