Ignition Switch replaced

I just finished replacing the ignition switch on my 99 Boxster. If I was 20 pounds heavier it would have never happened. The process did not help the arthritis in my neck and spine, the result of being rear ended, twice. Wayne the 101 book was invaluable in taking on this "minor" repair. This forum is my go to source for information. Thanks!

I'm about to do this. The 101 projects book makes no mention of disconnecting the battery but the Bentley says yes, do. I'm sue that's always the safest procedure, but then I either reset the radio or use a small battery back up.

How did you do it and how do the others do it?

Never a bad idea to disconnect battery while working on the car.

You will be laying in wierd positions under the steering wheel and not that far from the fuse box. If you dropped a screw driver or something, it is possible (though not likely) that you could face an unintended consequence.

Be safe.

I looked at the process and made the decision not to disconnect the battery when I did mine last year. From an electrical perspective, you unplug the old switch and plug in the new one.

So, the trickle current that goes to the radio does not got through the switch? Probably not if I answer my own question.

Yeah, 1st thing I did was pull the seat. I'm not a young nor a small guy.

Yup, I just unplugged & hoped...not a lot that I was worried about as I did it. But that upside-down position was NO fun! Fortunately it didn't take too long!
