Any ideas how serious this is?

Opened up oil filter and found many green flecks. CEL Code 1341 has not come on again but suspect it will in time . Guy.

There is the occasional fleck of metal but is non metallic.....any ideas?

You mean ferromagnetic. Aluminum and some stainless steel is not ferromagnetic but it still is metal. And it still should not be in the oil and filter!

Can't really see anything in the picture but a blur.

If it is green it is probably the plastic timing chain ramps. They'll need to be replaced. You're NOT talking rebuild money and can be a DIY if you research the procedure.

There are a number of things in the motor that are green including seals.

Considering the issue in your thread here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxster-cayman-forum/814941-code-p1341-came-up.html you may want to consider checking the Vario Cam adjuster solenoid. It can have green seals and if they fail could lead to a CEL.

Your timing chain tensioners can also have green seals.

The picture is not clear, but whatever it is - regardless... should not be there. BTW, why did you open the oil filter?
