Hi
First of all, I really appreciate you compiled all valuable information in your book and web-site. Without your book, I wouldn't have decided to buy a Boxster.
Anyhow, my 2002 Boxster S engine gave up. When I bought it, I saw oil leak from right side head, so I replaced gasket and it has been ok for about a year but this time not only did oil leak again, but did CEL come on and I'm reading P0300misfire and P0343cam position codes.
Now I am considering to swap the engine. I found a promising 2003 Carrera 3.6L donor motor. Then I remembered that you mentioned 2002 Boxster has an unique set of 7.2 DME and 2002 CAN BUS. On the other hand, 2003 Carrera uses 7.8 DME with VarioCam Plus. I compared DME pin assignments, and found they are completely different although the number of pins is the same. I understand that I have to get 7.8 version of DME for this 2003 Carrera engine. But, since the assignment is different, do I also have to fabricate Engine dressing wire-harnes & Engine-to-DME wire-harnes? Or is it possible to run 2003 Carrera engine with 7.2 DME by flushing it and reprograming it by Softronic?
If I have to use 7.8 DME, I believe I have to buy cooperating immobilizer computer too?
I appreciate your input based upon your great insights.

Variocam plus cannot ne swapped with variocam. You would need to swap all the electrical and replace the control modules. Unless you wanted to use the short block and parts of the heads to rebuild your own engine.
