06 Cayman Shift Cable Popping off

Just drove my Cayman home from downtown in second gear. Seems the shift cable on the left side popped off, so gear lever would do nothing. Popped it back on (too easy) and it came off again as soon as I shifted. I have a zip tie around it now, but that's just to get it parked. Anyone know of anything short of replacing the cable? Looks like there are some things around, but for the shifter end of the cable, not the transmission end.

If the 06 Cayman is like my 02 Boxster the cable end is replaceable. You have to remove the center console to get to it. Our host should have the part listed. I just replaced mine a few months ago, just make sure you take a Sharpie pen and make " alignment " marks before you remove the old cable end. Takes all of 5 minutes to make the repair once you can get to it. Put a little lithium grease inside the cable end socket before popping it onto the bottom of the shifter.

Mine is coming off on the transmission end, not at the shifter. Wonder if it uses the same insert.

No the transmission end is different. I know on the Boxsters some guys take zip ties to help hold the cable into the bracket on the transmission as they tend to slip out.
