Cayman and the IMS
I'm thinking of buying a used Cayman (2008) in the near future. But I never hear of IMS failures. Does the Cayman have the same problems? Thank you.

All IMS shaft designs are at some level of risk, some more so than others. As the 08 would also have the design that cannot easily be changed, if you are concerned just look for an 09 which would have the 9A1 engine which does not have an IMS.

While I agree with JFP, the 2008 version of the IMS is the best of the three designs and you don't hear of problems with many at all compared to the other designs. Perhaps because of lower mileage, better maintenance at this stage in their life, better design, etc.
I almost bit on a 2009 Boxster the other day and noted in the advertisement "IMS-less design". |

My next Boxster will definitely be the A91 engine. When you look at the complexity of the 5 chain design you wonder what they were thinking. And then the main bearing carrier. Didn't they look at other design and consider?
