Loud Squeal Like Bearing

Hi guys, my boxster 99 is making a loud squeal like a bearing sound. I have checked all the bearings from the belt and none of them is making the sound.

It sound like it is coming from the engine around the back right wheel. Any ideas what might be?

Thanks,

Frank

When the engine is hot or cold or both?
Does it change with RPM?
Does it happen when moving or stationary or both?

A lot of sounds appear to be coming from one area and are in fact coming from a totally different area. I had a bad release bearing in the transmission. It sounded like the clutch pedal.

It does it hot and cold. It changes with RPM, at 2,500rpm you can barely hear it, it is much noticeable at low rpms. You can hear it very loud in the right rear engine vent.

Frank,
Remove the accessory belt .Run the engine for a few seconds. Does it make the noise? Did you already do this?
There are many potential culprits:
1.idler bearings
2.alternator bearings
3.worn belt

Has the water pump been checked? Check the coolant level and smell for coolant. Look around the water pump for buildup around the pump.

You may also want to check your spark plugs. I know it sounds crazy, but I had a similar noise coming from what appeared to be the right rear wheel area and it turned out to be a loose plug.
