Car locks/unlocks with central button inside. Key fob died. Locking manually with key in door I hear a clicking but will not lock. Does the whole locking mechanism need replacing. Why would the button inside work and not with the key, thanks. 1998 Boxster.

The door latch switch may not be in the right position. Try cleaning and lubricating the door latch. Does function return?

Just so I understand the fuctions. When I use the central locking bottom in the car, the doors lock. With the key in the door, I hear a click sound but won't lock. So there's a switch in the handle ? I'll lube it up tonight and see. A new model Porsche would solve my issues also $$$$. Thanks for the reply
