I am replacing a torque converter on 987 Cayman S 2006. Do I need to drain transmission oil before pulling the transmission out? The transmission was serviced a month ago oil and filter so unless I NEED to do I won't.
Thanks! Oh by the way, are there any good torque converter replacement steps I can follow on this car? __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Porsche Boxster Transmission Removal - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article |

No I have done that job without draining the fluid. I have learned though that the blown torque converter could be cause by a restriction in the transmission heat exchanger. Might be worth checking that out prior to putting your Cayman back in to service! This can also be caused by having the oil level too high...make sure to verify the oil level is set at 40 degrees Celsius when you finish.
As for instructions it's pretty easy, remove starter, remove torque converter bolts, remove transmission making sure the converter stays on the transmission side. Then reverse those steps... I remember the torque converter bolts are "supposed" to be replaced but I think if you re-apply the Loctite you will be fine. - Casey |
