Borrow fan pulley wrench?

Hi guys

Is anyone located in Toronto able to lend me a fan pulley wrench? I don't have one and need to get my alternator off to clean all the crap under the fan shroud. I have one on order but it is taking its sweet time getting here. I'd need it literally for the amount of time it takes to undo the alternator nut!!

Here's hoping!! Greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Dan

Just take your 24mm socket and grind it down to fit a 1” or larger open wrench. Voila!!!

Cheers,
Johan

You don’t need that superfluous wrench. If you get the nut off, then the half pulley and shims fall right out.

Thanks Johan - perhaps I am missing something but I can't loose the nut without the pulley wheel being held still. I have tried holding by hand but the nut requires too much force to loosen. Is there a trick to this that I am not aware of - can you share how you do it?

Greatly appreciated!

Sorry Johan - I took another look at your image and see precisely how you've achieved this. Sadly I don't have a grinder so look like I am waiting for the wrench to arrive. I am hoping a car collector friend of mine ca lend me one from his '88 Turbo toolkit. Fingers Crossed!!

I’ve been able to loosen the nut by squeezing the belt very tight with large plyers and then cranking the nut with a 24mm spanner. Mind you, the belt was then toast.
