Alliance with the "Establishment"???
**Cross-posted to the P N-W region board**
This will be of interest to those of you who are planning to attend the 2004 SCWDP Round-Up...... As the organizer of the '04 event, I'm already quite busy getting things underway. Part of my planning gave me pause; I was thinking about the event getting larger with each year, and the possible personal liability of the organizer (me). So, I contacted a lawyer friend of mine for some advice. I showed him the release we have used for the past events. He said it was a good thing, but that the event should (must) carry *insurance*. Certainly, I'm not in a financial position to pay for this myself, and we are going to try to continue the Round-Up as, "No Fees, Just Fun". To this end, I have started dialogue with the executive of my PCA Region (Canada-West). They have given me a favorable response to co-organize the Round-Up, and most importantly, supply the vital liability insurance. All this, at no cost to the participants. I welcome your comments.....

Doug,
2004 Already? ![]() Sounds good, but I'm surprised you would need insurance for an event that is a join anytime if you wish type thing. I can see if you're tracking a car, but a public drive on public roads, I can't see how you'd be liable....but a lawyer would know. Good luck with planning... Alberta will be representing

I love it when I'm working with a subtrade and they say, "My lawyer says.........." What do you expect a lawyer to say? Nothing against lawyers (uh-hum) but they're potty trained on how to take your money.
Nonetheless Doug, glad you're taking the time to do all this work and we'll be looking forward to actually joining you guys next year. Good Work!

I respect my lawyer friend, and he doesn't have any axes to grind (money-wise) with me. And these days, it seems you can get sued for damn near anything!

Doug, I think you are wise to seek insurance and to do it through the local PCA. The PCA is the members club, so they say, so why not use their help?
Good luck, keep us posted. Jeff
