Well went to the dealer this morning trying to find out whats bent.. It turns out that the 2 arms on the top of the drivers side wheel are bent as shown in the picture.

993-331-047-03 $332
993-331-045-03 $314

Cost to repair is $1600 (Including Labor, Wheel alignment and tax).. Need to do this so it will pass the safety..WOW... really wish this was picked up in the PPI, as i know the dealer would of corrected this.

Spoke with the company that did the PPI and they basically are very sorry that it was missed and agree its bent and are discussing with the dealer who i bought the car from what can be done..

I have since told the dealer that is working on the car to order the parts as i want this corrected so it will pass the safety... and then i can register it in Canada...

Will keep you posted...

Wow, sorry to hear of your bad luck. That really sucks. While it would be right for the dealer to pay for that, both he and you should have some recourse to the shop that did the PPI. I mean, if they don't catch that, what else didn't they catch? What the hell good is a PPI anyway?

I've never heard of that, and don't know what causes it, but seeing as I've never heard of the problem, what are the chances it took something major to cause that damage? (like an accident)

I think you should post the name of the PPI shop, to warn others.

Hope it all works out in the end.

I dont want to mention any names yet as i beleive that the shop will at the very least reinburst me the full amount $365 for PPI and Compression test... but if they dont then sure its open season.....

As for the dealer i bought the car from they are seeing what they can do..I hope they can work something out.

The Porsche dealer here in Ottawa says that it looks like it was done maybe by towing the car wrong, not an accident which made me feel better...

all i know is i now have to spend an extra $1600 on a car that should of been near perfect.....

Hope to have some good news soon...

Well here is the deal..

The guys who did the PPI and Compression test only want to give me $110 back (The cost of the PPI), and dont feel as i should get the money back for the compression test $255.. ($365 -$110)

The guys that did the PPI are http://www.eurowerks.us/

Not very happy as it was missed.I guess i should of done my own ppi (HAHAHA)... but i guess i have to live with it now, at least they gave me something...... Still working with the dealer... he is being very good about it.

Talking

Well the dealer has gotten back to me and is very sorry that this was missed on the PPI, and has come up with a compramise. Even though the car was sold as a used car they have agreed to pay a large amount of the repairs...which i am VERY happy about..

I purchased the car from Bob and Stan at http://www.exclusive-motors.com and must say the personal service that they have brought to this car purchase experiance was the best......

I would most definatly purchase a car from them again...

Thanks.....

Sonny,
I appreciate the kind words. This is not something we'd like to make a habit of or we'll be out of business real fast...but we really felt bad about the circumstances. I hate to have a customer have to spend money immediately after they purchase something from us, but unfortunately, some things happen.

This all would have been avoided had they found it on the PPI....

Anyway, I really hope you enjoy the car once it gets fixed and hope to see you again!

Nice, classy. (I'm not being sarcastic) This is the way you earn business.

A 13-year PCA veteran selling used Porsches - probably a pretty safe bet in the world of used cars!

Our first Porsche was a 1974 914/4 that we bought from my wifes father in 1993. We still have it, it's what has become "Papa Smurf" - AIR body kit, full track prep, and a newly build 2.2 liter 6.

Owned a 90 944 cab that I wish I never sold, and now own the 993 cab and another 914 track/street car that shares the 2.2 with Papa Smurf.

Exclusive Motors started out as a hobby...how many of you out there see cars that are underpriced and say "jeez, I could buy that and sell it to make a few bucks?" Well, me and Stan thought it would make a nice little side hobby, and it's now turned into a full time job.

What's really cool is that we sell things that nobody really needs, but they REALLY want. To have people like Sonny come all the way from Canada to buy a car from us still excites me.

And Sonny, btw, if you ever buy another car from us...we'll have someone else do the PPI!

This is particularly true when you compare US vs. CDN prices. This is something I'm considering as a side project.

Good for you, Bob for being one of the 'rare' honest 'pre-owned' car dealers. As Christien said, many of us have bought from the US & know firsthand the hassles & the risks.

I bought privately & the car arrived with tore rear sway brackets. Missed in PPI? A shipping issue? I don't know & couldn't prove any fault because I found it a month after import during the Safety process. Buyer beware.

We will put your shop on the short list. No, I ain't buying but I'll recommend you. And I'll visit if I get any free time in Charlotte. (edit: I just checked the map & I drove by your shop in March.)

Ian,
Sorry to hear about your story. Unfortunately, sometimes it seems no matter what you do, you still have a chance of getting burned.

I always find it funny that people insist that they get a better car when they buy privately then from a dealer (no, I am not pointing fingers, just an industry observation). Here's the thing...where do you think WE get them from? We buy them from the same private owner that anybody else would. However, since we see a ton of these cars we USUALLY know what to look for. But still, we are not mechanics, so we typically recommend a PPI. Unfortunately, as Sonny can atttest to, even THAT doesn't always help.

All that said, we've been burned by dealers just as much as we have from private sellers. The car Sonny bought from us we bought from a private owner. A 993 coupe that we bought from a private owner that he represented as "perfect" has now had $2500 put into it to get the distributor, ABS pump, brakes, and master cylinder replaced. And, we've been sitting on it for 3 months before we can even offer it for sale! A 928 we bought from a dealer it seems had a whole front clip replaced. He never disclosed that and would not take it back. So trust me when I say this that we completely understand the frustrations our customers have.

OK, enough soap box. We'll just keep doing our best. I'm sure we'll tick off some people along the way, that's just the nature of this business. But we'll try to minimize it....

btw, check out the new 914 that we just finshed!! I'm excited about this one because my wife and I actually did a lot of the work ourselves.

Go to www.exclusive-motors.com click on "About Us" and scroll down to "Bob's Cars" click no the picture to see my cars. I'm starting a little bio on each car...ok, I've got only some info on the new yellow/blue one, but I'll get there.

I am another who purchased long distance in the US but was in contact with Bob, just so happened he didn't have anything available that met my criteria. I would have gladly purchased from him, great guy.

Sonny, I too know the frustrations of waiting to get your new dream car safetied and inspected. The shippers broke my rear torsion bar in transit and I had to wait an extra couple weeks for parts and repair. It was a long wait. But I am now enjoying the car in the sun and you will too soon.
