What to do in Ottawa?
I just found out I am going to be going to Ottawa on business in May. Any recommendations on what to do or see? I am not all that interested in the Parliament Buildings and other gov't landmarks..
Any pelican's in Ottawa? I can't seem to remember anybody posting from there..

My be a little tricky to skate on the Canal in May.
OP: I know you said you don't like the parliment buildings but I always enjoy walking around those buildings (not inside) and around the locks at night. I still do it to this day. Other things to do include getting pissed at many of the pubs in the market. It might be a little early in the year but you could rent a paddle boat on dows lake. There are some interesting muesems around, such as the Civilizations one if you are into that. Walking aroudn the market on a nice summers day is always a pleasure. It really depends on what your interests are....what are you into? Last edited by old man neri; 01-31-2008 at 10:20 AM.. |

I would second the idea of exploring the pubs in the market. Quite a few decent museums, including the new War Museum, but also the Museum of Civilization, the National Art Gallery, Aviation Museum...
Or if you are on the traditional business trip, and therefore looking for a "gentleman's club"... Barbarella's Diamonds - West of Parliament Hill Barefax - in the market Club Pigale - in Hull

Thanks for the posts guys. The museums and pubs sound interesting, particularly the new war museum. I am going to take a look online.
Regarding the strip joints .... Thanks Komenda but I don't want to be "that guy" sitting by myself in sniffers row.. Anything automotive related worth checking out?

Closest thing I can think of is the aviation museum. It's not cars but it's close enough, although I have never been myself.
As for the war museum....ya, go. Spend some time there, go to all the exhibits, watch the videos. It is something worth doing. As for cars there is nothing really that I can think of. Sorry. |

I just got home form Ottawa tonight, going back again in about 8 weeks. We had a killer time at Fat Tuesdays in the Market.... dueling pianos, women getting body painted, yada yada yada....
Big Daddy's Crab Shack is good. The aviation musuem in Rockliff is pretty good, I have been a few times. My hole trip was aviation related... ![]() Bare Fax has always treated us well if you know what I mean, they like us westcoast types. Barbarellas is a little quiter, but still has good talent. I would tell you about what happened in Hull, but "what goes on tour, stays on tour" ![]() Cheers

Hey Jeff, I think the aviation museum and the market for some good eats will be on the agenda. How is the 911 coming? Will it be done for this summer?

Depends a bit on if you have a rental car as these are beyond public transit. If you do get a rental I'm sure the Motorsport Club of Ottawa has an autocross in May, that is if the Senators don't make it very far

Ottawa had two playoff games. Some cities in Ontario had none. And some haven't had one for five years straight.

I picked the Sharks in my office pool, so i had to cheer for them. But it felt wrong.
I still appreciate the wide open hockey the Habs play. And the skill. |
