Previous owner Rant, long
Just want to share a story.
I bought a 993tt in Maple Ridge, BC just before xmas of last year, did some repairs and cleanup and is now absolutely pristine. I got an email from the seller, one month ago, wanting to buy the car back, something about how he toured last summer with his father and now his father has passed away. He has some associated emotional ties. I thought about it for a few days and told him I would like to get my cost and taxes back and forget about the cost for repairs and cleanup which amounted to about $3000.00. He thought my purchase price, less taxes and repairs was more correct. I then told him I would just keep it. The next day he emails me and offers $1000 less. I reluctantly agreed to sell at this price, but urged him to come and pick it up before I change my mind. He tells me he his coming, going to rent a U-Haul trailer. Two weeks transpire, and I email him about his plans so I can make my plans. We are going to talk by phone. I called him on his cell, he has a baby in his hands and will call back in 5 minutes. The return call never came. The following day I called again and this time he is driving, but he will pull over and call back in 15 minutes. Again the return call never came. I emailed him and was told he would call back the next day. What a surprise, the return call never came. So my question is: Why would a seller, with seller's remorse, be so inconsiderate? and if he finally calls should I now refuse to sell to him?

Pretty inconsiderate on his part.
Tell him you changed your mind and want the extra $1000.00.

Speaking of inconsiderate... How about someone ask for photo(s) or even more like take a measurement and you spent some time, post and that is it. No update on the thread not PM... S.F. Maybe when that happened I should check the obituary pages ![]() ![]()

I did call him a final time, left a voice mail telling him to do what he thought was honourable. Yep, no return call. I think from the advice here, if he does call, the price is going to change considerably upwards. No more Mr. Nice Guy

I wouldn't take or return his calls.
Nice car, you should keep it.

He has sellers remorse, but his wife doesn't
Why would you sell it unless you don't want it.

I only agreed to sell it because there was a sentimental attachment with the car and his father. At the eleventh hour the seller did email me and said that he was "flip flopping about the price" because of another car. So much for the sentimental attachment. I didn't want to sell this car but fell for the story.

If he decides he DOES want the car back, I'd sure add on the A-hole fee of a couple grand and do the deal on your schedule and not wait around for this guy. You've gone far beyond what you needed to do to make yourself feel good about it.
At this point, if I were you, I'd just keep the car until you wanted to sell.

It sounds like you are more eager to sell than he is to buy, based on the number of calls to him.
![]() He probably had a buyer lined up where he could make a buck and that buyer has now lost interest. Last edited by Traveller; 08-17-2010 at 10:22 AM.. |

I would offer to sell the car back.
At the cost of an additional $10,000.

I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of getting the car at any price, he obviously was trying to con you. Enjoy the car.........or sell for profit!!!!

The more I write about this incident, the more I believe he was trying to con me. In another email, I asked about payment and the delay and he said " I have the money in U.S. funds and honestly was waiting for the exchange rate to improve". He also wanted me to send him photos of the car which I thought was unusual because I did buy the car from him. So I resent the photos that he originally sent me.

no, the cheque hasn't arrived yet, nor the return call, nor the u-haul. I have been taking advantage of the good weather to do some spirited driving. I think this car loves me 'cause it certainly responds back when I gently massage the throttle.

Well I am in total disbelief. Two weeks has gone by and the previous owner has just called and wants to pick up the car tomorrow. I told him I needed another $1000.00 and he responded by saying I was being unreasonable. Oh yeah, the reason he didn't get back to me couple of weeks ago were because of some family issues.

I would love to tell him "Va Te Faire Enculer". He is actually from Australia, and I think he would most likely understand the tone if not the actual words.

Well do I feel stupid now. The previous owner called and was very remorseful. He really wanted the car and apologized. I sold it back to him on September 4th. So today (September 14th) he has listed on Craigslist Porsche 993 Twin Turbo .I can't believe I was so gullible. And I can't believe I didn't take the advice of this group.
