DON'T speed in BC!

Wow the new laws here in Beautiful British Columbia are crazy!
Get caught speeding over 40kph and cop can seize your car on the spot for 7 days. No judge, no jury.

What are they gonna say to someone doing 200kph over?
time to hang up the speeding boots imo.
what you say?

Guess I'm gonna have to pony up for a radar detector.

Yep, Escort or Valentine and common sense give a little more assurance but no defence to "Instant On".

My Escort paid for itself several times over.

More reason to go to the US on those great tours with Rolf&Deb, Paul, Phil, Charlie...................The country roads in WA and OR are fantastic, very little traffic and Police.

We drove more than 10,000 Km on those roads this year.

The best is that, should one get a ticket, it doesn't follow across the border, just pay the fine, that's it.

Of course, common sense and respect for other drivers is a must.

I sell Car Audio and we have sold five radar detectors alone this week! Two Escort 9500ci, one in a 05 Gallardo and in a 996 turbo. The rest were 9300 and Redlines. So crazy.

when did these laws take place? its totally absurd, remember that cop that died at the scene cause he was T boned buy one of 2 guys that were street racing, ran a red and his buddy , the other racer, picked him up and off they went, they got 6 months suspended sentence, one guy wasn't even a Canadian yet, when I'm the PM things will be a lot different

Why, do you think your speedo is 40 km/hr off? Kind of hard to not notice that.

Get a GPS that logs your speed and time. That way you can't have an over zealous cop get out of hand.

Speeding/racing is all very nice till someone else gets affected for life by the actions of idiots on the road. There are race tracks where you can open it up.

It wasn't all that long ago that excessive speeding (40 km over) was a $150 fine and 3 points. How times change...

There is another thread on here about Ontario....basically it says that if a police officer suspects your car has been modified for racing purposes they can seize it.

Since when did police become judges and find people guilty of a offense at the side of the road?

Since Dalton McGuinty aka "Crosseur de poules mouillée" (wet hens fu**er) got elected.

Out here in Nova Scotia, we're just as bad. Over 50= car towed and no license for 2 years and $2400 fine. It's everywhere. It started here a few years ago with the kids in the Hondas that liked to race and kill each other.

It won't last. It is illegal to seize property in that manner.

I figure that particular law will last as long as it takes for some bigshot lawyer to get busted. I can't see how it can be legal, more holes than swiss cheese. even with the previous discretionary 24 hr suspension for DUI, you basically had a choice. give up your license for 24 hrs OR take a breathalizer test. I'd be willing to bet that getting pulled over at 40 over on a clear highway won't see your car seized. in town in traffic maybe different. it's like a lot of municipal bylaws, they're on the books but they only get dragged out and enforced when needed. not on a daily basis.

ps. Rob. you really don't want to take a chance with that car of yours. best sell it to me cheap.

... CTV Toronto - Grandmother vindicated by Ont. stunt-driving ruling - CTV News

BTW, following the government appeal, a new trial was ordered.

Meanwhile despite another judge ruling the law unconstitutional, CTV Toronto - Grandmother vindicated by Ont. stunt-driving ruling - CTV News, the seizure are still happening and the most publicized/funny is this idiot... who did not take the warning (2 hours before) seriously Flashy rally car

My understanding is they still lay charges in Ontario but they don't seize vehicles without a trial.

Your understanding is wrong, unfortunately. It's still very much in effect - I see tow trucks at the side of the highway with cops all too frequently. My understand is that this law recently passed its first charter challenge, so has been found to be constitutional, unfortunately. Nice to know we've solved all of our society's other problems such that we can focus on these kinds of things.

Thanks Don, that's what I'm planning to do, something with WAY less hp that's for sure.

I always wondered how a car could be "too fast"? Now I know.
