1965 912

Interesting car. I don't remember a 912 with automatic in 1965. The shift leaver looks like a short shift kit. Also the seat belts are hooked to the luggage strap tie down. It does not have the proper hooks for seat belts.
The engine lid 912 logo is on wrong location and newer style script.
1965 912 came with steel rims.
To bad they did not show the engine bay and trunk area.

Pretty sure that this is the same car I drove and inspected in Edmonton earlier this year (same day I drove it I drove a 1980 911SC - ended up buying the 1980).

I have a number of other photos of the car as well.

Am in Medicine Hat so if anyone needs it checked out I am happy to assist with whatever limited abilities I have.

We don't have any Porsche-centric mechanics here so getting a PPI or something like that done could be a bit of a challenge.

John you drove every used car in Alberta . You know them all
You could not make up your mind what you wanted, Triumph, Mercedes, Porsche or Yugo and so on

I wondered if it was a sportmatic but I thought I could see a clutch pedal in one of the photos. Looks like a reasonable asking price if it checks out.

The 66 I have for sale is more original

I see a cheap after market carpet set for one.

this thing is still kicking around

I think it's been for sale for at least 3 years... I recall a really optimistic high of $12,000 now at $5500... rusty with with VW engine...

Garage
it looks like a 915 tower conversion. reversed and used with a 901 trans.

I don't think it's the same one Keith.

Fritz - yes, I did drive my share. But as I told everyone, I was waiting for the right one for me. And I think my 1980 is the one. Only reason I did not buy this 65 was that I already have one old car (68 GT6) and some of the niggly little bits (rear deck emblem) and the like just made me say no.

A yugo tho?? hmmmm, never considered one but now that you mention it ..... Unfortunately no room in the garage as I think a Citroen 2CV would be real cool.

When I looked at it it did have steel wheels. First photos I received from when it showed up in Medicine Hat it showed both sets of wheels.

Should have a VIN of 351213 and Engine 745742.

Tim - it is the manual tranny. I didn't crawl underneath to see what version it was.

Asking price in August was $ 16000. From my records, EurAsia in Edmonton did a fair amount of work on it.

From what I recall from the seller, it supposedly has been in Edmonton for a number of years, but can't recall exactly how many.

Plus it is a 65 not a 67.

My old faded memory seems to recall that it drove not too bad at all. Was up and down through all the gears without any problems. Over 100 kmh and seemed to handle well.

My real issue with the driving was due to the short time I had in the car. I could not get my leg and foot adjusted to the gas pedal, so it seemed like I was pushing the pedal down a long ways before I got any response. I don't blame the car for that one, I think it was mostly my problem.

Like I said before, the only reason I decided against it was that it did drive like a 45 year old car and I already have one of those. When I test drove the 1980 911SC an hour later I could really see and feel the difference and realized immediately that I did want something a bit newer than 1965.

No I wasn't suggesting it was the same car ... I just noticed the Cochrane car was still kicking around... it was listed for 12k last spring? now it's down to $5500... bit of a reality check happened I guess. There was a thread on the white car way back when.

Oh, I see. I think I remember that thread too.

Hey that's the turbo block! that was fast Don. I'm a little slow right now as I was on the iphone for the last post. I didn't see which case that was. I have to occasionally respond to and act interested in the in-laws (who have moved in today for the Christmas season two days) this entertaining cuts into the pelican time... maybe if I had an ipad it would be easier

Tim, that is a great looking car, but then I have a soft spot for the older ones. I may have a 993, but I prefer the look of the 964, its bumpers and fenders/headlights. Maybe because it and those before it are more of what a 911 was for the longest time.

People may complain about the price, but if that car is original...meaning no rust or patches on the underbody or body, it would be worth it to me. Engines and transmissions can be rebuilt to factory new; doing so to a chassis is far more difficult.
