RSR Door Panel

This one is half way done.

Got the DIY kit from Bob (app biz) and I use a white board for the panel and Carbon Fiber wrap for the finish (no padding).

As a bonus, the weight saving is 10 lbs per door.

The before look:

The after look:

Center Console Gauges Panel

This is a spinoff of the RSR Door project.

I'm adding another Wideband A/F meter, Voltmeter, Push Start, re-locating the Window Switches (leave the door really clean) and USB connector for Data Logging.

I did test drive the location a couple weeks ago:

Another dead weight as it was never plug in...

Swap it for a shelf; a saving of 3 lbs.

Short Shift Kit $ Seine Gate

Got the Porsche kit in 2010 and the Seine Gate in 2013 so might as well installed them now.

... and last but not least:

2015 being an odd year, it time for the biennial engine drop.

I'll will do the usual Valve Adjustment but using Kirk tool as oppose to the normal and backside method.

This time I got the gasket with the silicone beed on them to minimized the leak.

I have a nice thick piece of plate glass you can lay your valve covers on to see if they lay flat.

And apply some Permatex Ultra Rubber Gasket Sealant & Dressing (85409) to the sealing surfaces. It works!

So do I and the sticky sand pater to make them flat but I'll get the Permatex Ultra Rubber Gasket Sealant & Dressing next time I cross the 49 Parallel.

Its all in the details and that is what takes time, lots of it. One of countless brackets on the power train while it is out of the car.

Before...looks old...

Prepped for plating...

Finished product...

Even the starter that you'll never see is being refurbished.

Before media blasting...

After media blasting but before sealing...

New engine sound pad going in but not before detailing the engine compartment...

Its great being retired.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

True, but it would be hard to have the dinner plates stay in position upside down.

I need JJ's "stick" to hold my engine lid open temporarily while I have the struts removed.

Have a few things this winter.

Front suspension again - got a clunk with the right t-bar adjusting key. Suspect I will be replacing it. But, will try a couple of options I read on Pelican before going the replacement route.

Also need to go over the brakes - right front locks before the left front and they feel off when I first climb on them. Hoping it is just a brake fluid flush. Brakes were completely rebuilt a few years back with new front pads 2 years ago along with front flex lines. While I'm in there will change out the rear flex brake lines.

Change trans oil - have a minor click going into 3rd. I'll see what the trans oil change does. With 305,000 kms on her, likely time for another rebuild. 1st and 2nd syncros done at ~200,000 kms by PO. They seem OK for now. Trans rebuild might be a 2015/16 winter project.

Rest of the work is the usual maintenance (oil/filter change, valve adjust, front wheel bearing adjust, go over ignition) and A to Z inspection stuff.

Oh, must replace the rear tires. Purchased a pair last summer thinking I would need to replace them before the end of the driving season. Managed to squeeze a few more miles out of the old ones. Of course, during our last drive of the season we found snow. Try driving in that with performance tires at the wear bars. Yahoo!!!

I find wrenching almost as much fun as driving.
