Any Calgarians...

is there anyone living in Calgary or nearby that could go check out a Boxster I'm interested in. I live on the east coast (Halifax) and would like to be sure it's worth the trip up to pick it up. Looking at pictures is tricky because you can't always tell what is a scratch/dent and what is a reflection from the background. If confirmed that the car is what is advertised I would still get it checked by an independent shop locally.

I would be willing to pay for someone to do so. It would b very much appreciated.

Thanks

Jethro

I am not in Calgary, but it would be helpful to know what year. 97-2004 with repairable IMS vs 2005-2008 drop the engine split the case, plus plastic water cooler impeller blade vs bulletproof 2009-2012 dfi engine and 2014 onwards. From 2009 on, just take it to the dealer. Early cars you need proof of ims replacement. From 2005 - 2008 no one can give you a solid guarantee. I would want $5000 off retail just to consider those cars - both Boxster and Caymans. They will (have) the mid year 911 price blues. I am a Boxster Fan - just after 2009!

I'm by no means a Boxster expert but we have many in our local PCA club. I would place your request on our website if possible:

PCA Wild Rose Region Porsche Forums - Calgary Porsche Club

If no one can help you, I could but I'll be out of town until around August 11.

Cheers and good luck in your pursuit!

It's a 2010 Boxster S with PDK, so Ims is not a worry. It was basically to take a look at the state of the paint condition and a general visual check to make sure everything is as advertised before I fly over to drive and bring the car in for an inspection at an independent shop. I tend to really take care of my cars and a I only want to buy the same. This one has less than 30,000 kilos and appears to be in great shape, but it's difficult to tell the difference of a scratch/dent from a reflection in pictures. The only caveat is that he did drive it some in the winter, on non-snow days when roads were clear. I would prefer no winter driving but it does look very well looked after.

Thanks recycled and 2por, very much appreciated.

Thanks so much Stealth, I do appreciate it. The gentleman who is selling is vacationing in B.C. for the week. So it could be next week before he's back. I will email you the info hopefully soon. It would just be a matter of having a visual look at the body for scratches or dents and a quick look underneath to check for any signs of rust or damage. It looks practically like a new car in pictures with extremely low miles but I would hate to fly all the way accross the country to find it's not quite as advertised. I would get a PPI done before I buy for sure. I tend to really take care of my cars and I like buying from people who do the same.

Will get back to you, thanks again.

No problem, I bought my Cayman sight unseen from a Pelican in Florida. You get a good sense by talking with the guy, getting receipts and of course a PPI.

Man, you are a braver man then I.

I also have a pretty good idea what people are about, usually within minutes of speaking with them. You do get a good sense early on, it's the little things that jump out at you. Usually, my first impressions are right probably 95% of the time. I just don't want this to be the exception due to the distance involved.

The PPI is mandatory, no doubt about it.

I will advise you either way. Again, many thanks.
