New user to forum

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum. Have been on the 924/944 BBS for a bit and started looking around and found this board.
About a month and a half ago I purchased my first Porsche. It is a Forrest Green '83 944 n/a. It need some work but I got a decent deal on it so I went for it. I think if I was to do it again, I would take the time and spend the money to find one in good shape
But for the most part I am having a great time driving this car and look forward to learning the car and especially learning what the car can do
Does anyone know of any good Porsche mechanics in the Vancouver Lower mainland area? There is quite a bit I can do myself, but also quite a bit that I would feel better about a professional doing for me.

Thanks for the help

Welcome green944
Sorry I missed your first post, my setting was "show last 5 days" and I missed it? Glad to have you posting here 'eh. I'm about 5 hours North of you, 1 hour East of Kamloops. Drop me a line if you're ever up this way - I've got an in-house Starbucks Cappuccino maker and I'll treat ya to an Irish treat! Hah ha.

There is a poster in the 911 Tech Forum named Hawgrider from Vancouver, this guy is very smart and I think he's a mechanic and if not, he WILL know of a good source for you! Do a search, drop him an eMail and you'll be glad you did. You can tell him I refered you if you like.

I used to own a 944 and loved it..... wish you the best with it and good luck finding a wrench.

This time it is my turn to apologise Haven't been online too much lately. Thanks for the info Rob and if I am in that area, I will for sure let you know. Might be sooner than you think though... my girlfriends family has a cabin on the Shuswap lake about 25 mins from Salmon Arm. Her dad actually grew up in Salmon Arm.
Thanks for the welcome and I will talk to Hawgrider and see what he has to say.
THanks again.

hi there

hows it going. new to the scene too. but i had my porsches for a while. too busy trying yo fix it up. i have a 911 and a 944S. i must sy u will truly enjoy ur 944. i know i did and still do. at the beginning i didn't really care for the 944 but as i drove it more often i found that it was actually more pratical as a daily driver than the 911 and it was somehow more fun to drive in certain ways. not that the 911 is not fun to drive, it's just different.

if ur looking for a good wrench, i would recommended targa performance in north van. 604-984-4338. they r great. great costomer service and they do the job right without doing something else to your car without telling you until the bill comes to u. mcl is also good but some of the wrench r inexperience and they charge dealer prices. there r a few guys in richmond and van that r good but i guess depends where u r.

you should try to do the job yourself first bc porsches arn't all the hrd to fix. most jobs can be done with the right tools but i would leave the major cmponents to the pros. anyhow hope this helps and hope to seee u on the road.

Great! I have a cabin in the same area, complete with ski boat and many water toys, etc. You can eMail me at robmck@telusplanet.net and I'll pass on my phone #'s etc. so we can get together. Hope you can bring your car! My cabin in near Sorrento in Blind Bay, you're probably close to that?

We open up our cabin mid-April and start water skiing (with wet suits) shortly after. Usually my wifes Birthday - April 21st! Look forward to hearing from you and getting together with another PHead!

Cheers!

Rob, sent you a PM

JCTommyBoy
Thanks for the info, I will give em a call. I have done all of the work so far on the car and am learning quite a bit There are a few things that I would like to get checked out though. Maybe just have a pro go over the car and tell me what all is wrong with it. Then I could see if I can fix what I can on it and then contemplate professional help if need be.
I look forward to getting it on a nice twisty road and letting go a bit
Good luck with your cars as well.

Welcome green944,

I don't think that I've ever seen a forest green 944 before. Any pictures that you would be willing to share? Congratulations on your purchase!

I envy you BC guys! I love driving through the mountains on the BC side, the scenery is just fabulous.

I really like th elook of it though. And when I get the paint done, I think I am going to go a little darker with a black pearl (has blue now)
I will definately do some before and after photos though.
