Zip Ties Issue

Hi all, i have used plastic zip ties inside my engine room but after few days these ties melt because of the heat inside the engine room, is there any alternate of these ties? how about using wires? is it safe to use?

I have zip ties all over my engine wiring, never had one melt.

From zip ties manufacturer:

Ties withstand temperatures to 185°F (85°C) and have a melting point of 495°F (257°C); except for barbed design cable ties which withstand temperatures to 167°F (75°C) and have a melting point of 425°F (218°C). All ties remain flexible to –40°F (–40°C).

I certainly hope your engine compartment isn't seeing 495 degrees .

Probably shouldn't be using zip-ties to hang your exhaust...

If you are using decent quality zip-ties, and they are melting, you probably have them far too close to something really very hot, like an exhaust pipe or turbocharger or some such. It would be best to change where the zip ties are so that they are not so close to the hot stuff. If that is not possible, you may be able to add a heat shield over the hot parts like a piece of sheetmetal. If that is not practical, you might be able to use a hose clamp to hold whatever it is together.

But I think the best approach is to not have your zip ties that close to the hot parts.
