Oil service light & change interval

The service interval is 3x too long imho especially with a turbo. Although I check level every 3rd fill up I would like to change the service interval to 5,000 miles on the dashboard.

Is that possible?

It is possible to change the service interval, but you need the appropriate software to do so. The dealer and better independent specialists will have that kind of software available to them. I don't think the dealer will change the interval (except at the behest of MINI, who did change the interval to ~10K miles on my 2012 back in 2014) but an independent shop may. One local to me changed my car to ~7500 miles.

You should most certainly start to do the 5k mile oil change interval. All MINI enthusiast will tell you to go this route. It's good that you keep an eye on your oil level as well as oil consumption is not uncommon for MINI's. If you do not want to go the software route that Dave explained, you could change your trip mile counter to calculate how many miles traveled since your last oil change. That way you know how many you're at and you can change it at 5k. I do this.

Thanks guys, I do change the oil every 5k and top up as needed between changes, I just want the service light to pop up at 5k as it does on my Toyota.
