Along with that connector you will need 2 of these wires 61-13-0-005-199-M9 HERE. Image of one of them below. You will need to splice them into the wiring harness.

Hi,

I know this thread is old, but could you tell me which wires should go in which port if the key side is facing towards you? There's a yellow wire and a white wire, and I don't want to cross them.

I know this thread is old, but which wires go in which port if the key side is facing you? There's a yellow wire and a white one, and I don't want to cross them by accident.

I am not sure. Best bet is to look at how the old connector is hooked up and make sure to hook up the new connector the same way.

61-13-0-005-199-M9 is the wrong part. The terminals for the temperature sensor connector are

BUSHING CONTACT(m) Part #: 12-52-7-543-260-BOE

or

Bushing Contact(Mini)(m) Part #: 12-52-7-555-721-BOE.

They are the same, except that the -260 part has an extra flag that needs to be trimmed off (and costs a little less).

You will need to strip the end of the old wires, and crimp the terminal on. Study the connector first, and make sure the parts of the connector that are behind the terminal are there before you do your crimping. The crimper I use is something like this. Avoid crimping the rectangular part of the terminal, and it should snap right into the connector.

It doesn't matter, functionally, which wire goes where—the sensor is a variable resistor, and the resistance is the same whichever way you measure.

Question on reverse wiring on ECT sensor:

Are there any impact on reversing the 2 wires that is leading to the ECT sensor? I got a new ECT sensor that came with my new thermostat and housing, replaced the plug and wiring as mentioned above and now I'm getting DTC code of P0117. Wondering if new ECT sensor can be defective. I still have my old sensor and was wondering if I should stick with my old sensor. Any thoughts on fixing the P0117?

Bad ECT Sensor Wiring
 
Luccia or anyone else,

I have a P0117 and it's telling me that I have a low circuit input on my ECT sensor. I have a brand new ECT sensor, wires and plug connector which I bought using your suggestion from you earlier comments. I even tested the new ECT sensor just to make sure that it is not defective and it works fine. My OBD II machine is telling me that "I HAVE A BREAK or GROUNDED wiring" for my ECT and was wondering if there is a wiring harness I could buy that leads to my ECT sensor from the DME terminal OR could someone tell me which pin number on the harness or DME so I could run a new wire that would bypass the break or grounded section in order for my DME to pick up the signal again. Could you help me? That would be great if you can.

Hi all, just joined the forum, and have lots of questions on a 2008 mini cooper hatchback, r56,N14
replaced t-stat housing, forgot where the 3 plug sensors go??? one for temp, one for t-stat, one for oil.
One has a green spacer ( for lack a better word ) another has a grayish spacer, only one has single wire going into the connector, I know I should of marked them first, but being in a hurry, I did not, so I am here looking for HELP If you can be so kind as to not mention my not marking them or taking pics I'd appreciate it.Seems weird that a plug has only 1 wire going into it??

If you're looking straight down at the sensor, the Yellow wire goes on the left. Yes it does matter if you have the Yellow wire on the right side of the plug. I know this because when I had the wires reversed, the computer read the ECT as 284 degrees Fahrenheit even when my engine was stone cold. So yes, it's important which wire goes where.

Coolant sensor connector
 
Just wanted to point out this connector does not work on 2013 Mini Cooper. The plug is too big and key is oriented wrong. Unfortunately, I did not find this out until receiving the part and tried to use it. Pretty sure my son's hatchback is an R56.
