Where does this vacuum pipe go and how difficult is it to change?

Hi there
I have a 2007 mini copper S R56 UK car. It has a small leak from the vacuum line that plugs into the valve cover on the left hand side to the rear. It then disappears down under the induction manifold/air box. Where does it ultimately end and how difficult is it to change?

I've attached a photo showing the line in question

Thanks in advance

Hey Adam - I've attached a diy tech article from our site that I think will be very helpful to you in troubleshooting the leak. If you have any additional questions, feel free to post a Comment just below the article and someone will get back to you with more details. Best of luck!

That's great. Thanks for the help!

Hello Adam -

Here is where it attaches to the valve cover. This image is figure 4 in the valve cover tech article Dmitry linked above. This is the one you're referencing, correct?

That is the vent tube/hose. It's not uncommon to have a leak from there. It connects from the valve cover to the lower intake manifold. It's part of the PCV system (Crankcase-Ventilation). Here is a better image of it and the part: Pelican Parts - 2009 MINI Cooper S Hatchback - Vent Hose. And here is a diagram that shows you how it is routed so that you can better understand its location to the lower intake manifold

Here is a thread where another individual reported an issue with it and where we discussed the location: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-mini/940120-vent-tube.html.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Yep that's the one very helpful, thanks.

Do you know if I can get to the intake manifold end by simply removing the air box?

Thanks in advance

You might have enough room to get to it with the box removed. If not, you might have to remove a few more things/the manifold. Take a peek at our intake manifold removal DIY as figure 9 shows a good amount of room to get to the hose with the box removed: MINI Cooper R56 Turbocharged Engine Intake Manifold Replacement (2007-2011) | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article.
