Is 3k too much for 40mm weber rebuild

I got a quote for a rebuild for a pair of 40mm webers, 3K (I won't say who) I thought was pretty expensive, even with machining of the bodies and oversize shafts.

I would have thought $1500 would be about right.

Matt,

last set of carbs I had rebuilt were Solex's off a 356, (I know there not Webers but..) The invoice reads;
service and rebuild 2 x solex carbs to suit Porsche, chem clean and bead blast carby gasket kits and parts, 5 x hrs labour including GST $573.30 Brookvale carburettor service, the carbs were great bolt on and no problems. Don't know if their still there i believe they were going out west somewhere, but was great service and no problems.

Ph no on invoice 99386560

Glenn

WOW, I'm in the wrong business...

You obviously think it is too much if you asked the question, the only way to know if it is the going rate is to get 2 or 3 more quotes and then decide if you want to spend the money on them or go another way.

BTW, this may show my ignorance but what is PMO territory?

Alan,

PMO's are the American Built version of the weber (design improved signnificantly) as oposed to the original italian. They retail for USD $3200 per pair and are the ultimate in carbs for flat 6and 12 cylinder engines found in early ferrari and lambo
