We all get caught up in the snob-trap occasionally.
But it would serve us well to remember that no matter what the subject, someone else will always be smarter, faster, richer, more knowledgeable or better skilled that us. Always.

Even if we manage to become the absolute best at something, it's only a short matter of time until someone better comes along and knocks us off our pedestal.

Imagine trying to be a car snob and acting like we're all that, and then realizing that Carroll Shelby and Dan Gurney were standing right behind us listening.

Yeah I know they're dead but that's not the point.

I'm glad the insurance company figured that one out.

Such a wasteful act to do.

Congratulations! A car kind of becomes part of the family after a couple of decades. I bought both of my 356s in 1973. I had owned some before and some since.

First time I ever tried (16 years old) after we started it for the 1st time, you could've used it for a lawn sprinkler. HAHA.

I only work on Holley's. (As if that's a challenge). I drive a Qjet. Holley on the shelf cuz they suck.

I met a young man at a bar and he noticed my car keys (Porsche crest).
He says ... Ohhh I'm a "car guy" and a "Racer"
We talked about cars and tracks for quite a while, and I was impressed at what he had driven and he did know the tracks ...
Then he made a comment about almost being close to getting a new car .
I bit . (Me) "Just saving up or got to sell something?"
(Racer) "no, less than 2000 more points and i earn a new car on the simulator".

His fake reality was so real he was living it.

1)- That is SCARY. People really think the computer thing is as good as the real deal.

2)- Part of the reason I refuse to really get into 'virtual' or 'online' anything. Completely artificial in nature and just, weak.

Back when I started instructing with PCA, must have been in 1998, a wave of really young Microsoft turks seemed to all buy new Porsches at once. Then they added whatever the latest go-fast gimmick was, put on sticky rubber, and brought them to the track. I vividly recall instructing one such Microturk who was truly terrifying in his new 993TT. It was his first time on track, and he seemed absolutely fearless. I asked him what he did, and he said "video games." Suddenly, it all made sense, and I told him "there's a big difference between hitting the virtual wall and hitting that real wall over there. We can't just reboot." I think the guy really lost track for a bit what was real and what was not.

BTW, not intending to offend the Microturks who may be out there--many of them were terrific drivers who became friends.

The CTO of my company is a car and motorcycle guy. Has tracked motorcycles extensively and owns a Shelby GT500. He’s also built a race sim in his house that is pretty elaborate, and has showed me pictures and videos of his sim racing. He keeps encouraging me to build a simulator, and I keep encouraging him to buy a Spec Miata.

If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went.

It's all about relationship. I never saw a dog shoot down anyone with a good heart, and I never saw Grady Clay shoot down anyone for not being a car guy. As ''stupid'' as they are, dogs seem to know some things that people forget. If you look for the bad in people, you may never be disappointed, but you will never be delighted.

There are car guys, and then there are good people. I heard the joke about the porcupine and the Porsche. I may be a real prick, but I try to keep it on the inside.
