I was making some doorway trim on a hardwood project on my table saw. I was tired and let my guard down( literally). The small piece I was feeding into the saw kicked back and inserted a 4 inch splinter into my palm. Emergency room Doc didn’t think I had anything in my hand and sent me home. One week later I went to see my Dr. Insisting I had something in my palm. Sonogram proved it. Going into surgery I asked the female surgeon for the piece of wood rather then send it to pathology. Why she asked. Said I needed to glue it back on the trim piece I was making. She didn’t laugh.

Still have most of the finger, about 3/8" shorter now. No nail, doc said it may grow back. No rushing or shortcuts, earned my lesson. Router switch broke today, stuck on. A month ago I would have put a note on it, or used a power strip. Today I walked away, won't use it until fixed. I did jump back on the horse. Still use a table saw, and chop saw. But I double check before turning on. |
The automatic blade guard broke on my chop saw - er, I mean “compound mitre saw” last month. I kept using it for the rest of the day, but I told the handyman working for me not to use it. He protested, but I don’t need that liability. I bought a new saw and gave the old one to him in a round about way, by setting it next to the trash can and not paying attention to where it went.
