I have a friend that is providing logistical support to the rescue workers.
He left Raleigh yesterday with several pallets of water trying to take it down to Jacksonville, NC. Eight hours later they had to give up and turn around.

There is absolutely no way to get from Raleigh to Jacksonville except by air. The flooding is that bad :-(

Wilmington is considered an island now.

Plus they are dealing with the flooded out hog waste ponds and Duke Energy had a breach in one of their coal ash ponds contaminating a nearby lake with Arsenic and Mercury.

Another example of why some folks don't believe the weather reports or news coverage:

twd28210, almost as soon as I sent that post the skies opened up and the power went off! Ha! So much for Karma! Our house is on one of the highest points on the north side on the Huntersville line. The power came back about an hour ago. I too got that text message blast from the 'authorities"

The camera operators must be pissing their pants laughing.

And that's part of the issue. When the news people fake it, people stop believing them.
Then when the fit really hits the shan, no one believes it and people who really need help don't get it.
Or people who should evacuate don't.

I-40 near the New Hanover line.

That part of i-40 looks quite a bit different than the i-40 around here.

GothingNC 09-17-2018 04:35 PM

I agree, more trees compared to I-40 in NM

My neighborhood during Harvey. Just one of thousands of flooded neighborhoods. You didn't need to fake the flooding. There is no reason to create fake scenes. It is simply Lazy Journalism.

Our banking partners are in Wilmington. All of them were evacuated.

This is a sign in Barstow at the beginning of I-40 west:

Have seen both signs, but never stopped for a photo.

I see the one in California more often.

Taxpayer money wasted because these fools thought a hummer could drive through anything.
