Just bought this 1998 BMW K1200RS, 29k mi. $1200.
One owner bike, spongy brakes, exposed electricals due to aged rubber coating, shabby seat cover, etc..
Runs like a top though. 200 mile ride home took less than 4 hours.

Nice looking machine there, "A".......great score!

Anytime you can ride the bike home after a purchase you're doing good. That doesn't always happen!

==============

I went over tonight and moved some of my bikes to a smaller storage unit....about 1/2 size. The rent went up on me - past my 'pain threshold' - so I did a little re-arranging.

Moved the Boxster into a 10x30 unit I have there.

I went from a 20x20 to a 10x20 and am saving ~$160/month. This is all just temporary until next Spring....maybe earlier.

The new unit was right across from the old one so VERY easy move!

You know it.
Normally, I would not ride 200 miles right from the seller back home.
But knowing the quality of the K12RS from the one owned from 20 years ago, when I rode from Philly to Key West in 27 hours with stops.
I felt comfortable enough mechanically to do so.
Boy did I missed the comfort of a K12RS on the highway, smooth engine, minimal engine vibration through the 200 mile ride home.

Creating space for all my bikes is a challenge, too.
I think it might be time for me to rent a storage unit to make room, too.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the monthly fee for the 10x20?
I think that's enough to store at least 6 motorcycles.

No, I don't mind at all. And yes - 6 bikes would fit easily. I think I have 7 in mine right now plus a couple pedal bikes and an e-bike and a few other parts.

The base price I got for mine was $105/month.....but with the extra costs they tack on.....it ends up at $132.44/month.

The pricing changes all the time with this operation (Cube Smart) & I'm sure most others....but they offer deals for new customers - like half off the first month - or second month - sometimes first month (or second) is free.

My mid-range plan is to get something in place at my house to store them while also selling off a few. I need to dial back big time with my "overhead"!

Saw this Rudge at a show recently. Last of 'em were made back in the mid-1940s.

I have a HF media blaster I haven't used much since it's purchase. Going to drag it out tomorrow and see how she does on some of the stuff I'm working on now.

These things are messy as hell so not looking forward to that part!

^^^ That's VERY cool, Billy...way to get them raised right! I think Kaplan Motorspots does a lot of the Gas Gas stuff.

-----------

Last night I finally finished the carb rebuild. Looking back - it's not a very hard job to do at all. The hardest part is knowing what to do - and making the right decisions of which parts to re-use and which ones to replace. It's not always obvious! I tried to re-use all the old parts as they "looked" sturdier than those in the rebuild kits I had. I also sourced some stuff from a V4 expert, Joe Nelson, who has been wrenching on these bikes for many years and has a products page on his website for other enthusiasts in need of 'stuff'. V4 Dreams - Home

Have not done a leak test yet but will later today.

While I get back to work now on the other stuff the bike needs, I also will begin work on a carb rebuild for the set off my Yellow bike, now that I know the drill.

FYI: this was a complete disassembly of the carbs including separation of all 4 from each other. Included in the rebuild was replacing all the fuel joint tube o-rings with Viton versions. The new float bowl gaskets are also Viton.

For anyone doing this job, I recommend having on hand a set that has been correctly rebuilt to use as a reference. I did this and can tell you it was EXTREMELY helpful....MUCH better than any reference book, sketches, or photos you could take.

That set is on the left and the ones I rebuilt are on the right:

Thanks, Shaun, but tbh, I could have spent more time cleaning up some of the smaller parts, but I got to the point I just wanted to finish the job.

As you know there's some zinc plating on some of the parts so if someone wanted to do it right they'd have those re-plated.

Right now I have bigger fish to fry, as they say...lol....

Using Berryman's Chem-dip on my carbs this morning to see if it helps free up the sticking throttles. First carb done and it worked great! Still had to work the throttle back and forth about 30 times but finally freed up. Good product - and very handy!

Picked up this classic for cheap, low miles, super clean, near zero mods.
Stock exhaust doesn't quite do the engine justice.
Beatle bags are growing on me the more I looks at them.

Winter Project. Plan is to get it as period correct as I can. 1960 T120 with many incorrect parts.
