Seller said she didn't understand what happened. Tank was nice before. Mentioned she used OSPHO to clean up the rust inside. I didn't say anything but in my experience you never use ANY acids on fuel tanks. If she'd only used EvapoRust the tank probably would have been fine.
Anyway......I have this decent White one I picked up in August I could use. Maybe try and get that dent pushed out......

I’ve been making some slow progress on this 1972 R60/5 that I picked up a few months back. Got the headlight bucket completely rewired and the front forks rebuilt.

|
Just did a cold start video of my latest bike. Did not give her any throttle until well into the warm up stage. Which is how you're supposed to do it anyway.
Seems to settle in at 1,200 RPMs. Gonna get a plate for her tomorrow and start riding her around a bit more before anymore fiddling with the idle. I'm still on cloud 9 to have scored such a good condition example with such little fanfare!

Been doing some more work on the front end of the bike. This time it is re-spoking the front wheel. Both the front and back wheels are pretty corroded and the spokes rusted to the point that I didn’t trust them. So time for new spokes, some wheel polishing, and a new tire! Still need to do a bit more of polishing on the front wheel.

Looks fantastic, Kurt! Lot of work there - tedious but a real labor of love. I always appreciate seeing these vintage machines getting some love - so inspiring!
Please continue to post here with updates. ========== I'm currently working on a dented fuel tank trying to get it presentable to use on my recent Interceptor acquisition. I tried unsuccessfully to get the dent out using various methods and finally decided just to take the Bondo approach. It would have needed paint touch up regardless of method so I think this is an OK approach. Here's where I am as of this evening. Will do more prep tomorrow and hopefully the first application of filler.

With bondo and drywall filler, the art is in the putting on, not the sanding off.
Before you put on more, get what you have on there following the tank curvature and profile perfectly. Get an aluminum rule that you can hold on there to find your high and low spots. Sand down your high spots and then fill the low spots (and only the low spots).

I also have a nice set of sanding blocks made out of EVA Foam in various shapes that will help me get those curved parts dialed in. The kit came with sandpaper with a peel and stick adhesive backing so you can better secure the sandpaper to the block. Gonna try and get some of this done tomorrow. Cheers, mate!

Not mine, but I wish it was. There is a lot going on here for those familiar with old Ironhead Sportsters. Pretty extensive build thread on one of the forums I'm on periodically. It's a '79, which is probably the most unloved year of the bunch. Lots of internal mods in addition to the aesthetic mods visible, including 4 5/8" stroker wheels, head porting, combustion chamber reshaping and smoothing, twin plugged, re-geared tranny, etc etc.
