I cant stand all the newer cars and their numbness and plastic everywhere.

Agree all the new sports cars have been homogenized.
Software engineers now provide excellent nannies on all the new cars.
Brand loyalty to what? which brand nannies you prefer?

Next car will be a horse

Yes, Miltex instruments.

Cars, not so much.

Being an engineer, I am most loyal to functionality and purpose. I want my Cars to be fun to drive and appreciate the engineering in the cars. I also like to tinker with them so, new automobiles with expensive computer driven diagnostics are a challenge for the home mechanic to service them selves. I also don’t want to live my life the same as everyone else, so driving cars with lower production quantities appeals to me. So, I am kind of stuck on air cooled 911’s and that suits me just fine.

I also like four-wheel-drive trucks, to scratch my off-road urges. Growing up in Colorado, this was Ford country. So, I Used to be a Ford guy, but Ford really doesn’t make a vehicle that can stand up to the functionality and flexibility of the suburban, for my needs, hauling lots of stuff or people. So I am now on my fourth suburban. Because it suits my needs, and it’s generally not “ found off road dead”

My wife was a brewmaster for the Coors brewing Company, so I will admit being very brand loyal to Coors products. I learned a lot about industrial espionage in the brewing business and how Anheuser Bush regularly changed their beer formulas to match the chemistry of Coors products. Since she got all the free beer we can drink, that certainly reinforced my loyalty decisions.

I don't think I'm loyal to a particular brand, but specific cars. After 2005's I stopped caring about new Japanese cars. Still love my '94 Land Cruiser. Original owner, and it's only car that really stuck around... even with its piss poor power and gas mileage. This car is definitely a lifer for me. Great community always helping each other out too.

Not a full list but what I can think of at the moment:
10+ Mazda (NA and NB Miata's)
4 Porsche
2 Toyota
2 Acura
2 Lexus
1 Nissan

SmileWavy I rarely use ketchup, but when I do, it's Heinz Jalapeno Ketchup. I prefer this. On everything.

unless it's Ketchup. HUNTS only please.

We make our own ketchup. The recipe makes a ketchup that is a lot like the bland commercial stuff. One year I accidentally doubled the spices. Now THAT is ketchup. Been making it that way ever since.
If we buy ketchup, we buy this stuff.

It's what ketchup ought to be.

I'm not brand loyal but I think for a happy life it's something like this:

Italian food, French wine, German Cars, Russian Vodka, Irish Whiskey, Scandinavian women, and nothing at all from Great Britain.

And if you enjoy misery you choose

Italian Vodka, French cars, German whiskey, Russian food, Scandinavian wine, and Irish women.

I have owned a gazillion different cars and the only make/model I wouldn't buy again is a Hillman. May not be their fault but it was not a good car.

A930Rocket 10-25-2018 07:25 PM

Lots of cars over the years, but I’ve had two Ford F150’s for the past 17 years. First one had 225k miles when I traded it in after 13 years. Second one already has 100k after 4 years.

Had a 911 for six years and sold it when I got my 930 for 8-9 years.

I know some other guys my age that stuck with Ford or Chevy simply because their dad did, and they know the difference between a Windsor and Cleveland engine. And the small block guys all laughed at the overpriced Ford engines. Then the rare MOPAR guy comes along with big bucks Hemi elephant engines.

I tells ya, the guys that are loyal are the ones that run Pontiac or Mopar or AMC motors, because they get no love from the aftermarket and parts ain't cheap and easy like the Ford and Chevy stuff. You've got to put up or shut up if you're an off-brand man in the hot rod game.

RSBob 10-25-2018 09:47 PM

Have never thought of myself as brand loyal but have only owned German cars with the exception of a ‘74 Dart Swinger with a V8.

1 Ford Capri V6
1 Dodge
4 Porsches
7 Audi’s
1 VW

OMG between the Audis and Porsches I’m a freakin German car snob, not to mention a dope for owning a Dodge which only went backwards and sideways in snow.

Thats funny. My Cayman only goes sideways in the snow. One day last year we only had about 4" and I thought, its only 2 blocks to the highway and thats been cleared. Porsche ended up sideways in the front yard. It sat there for 4 days.:D:D

That i now own:
Cars: Subaru, Acura, Toyota, Porsche
Cameras: Rollei (8), Pentax (8), Fuji, Panasonic Lumix, Linhof, Nikon (4), and an assortment of old film Contax, Olympus, Exakta, Zeiss Ikon, and other folding and rangefinders.
So no loyalty here.

flipper35 10-26-2018 12:23 PM

While I like Mopar, especially the old stuff I will buy what works for our situation and price. I will NOT buy another Nissan though. Ours was given to us and that was too much to pay for the piece of crap that it is. The BT integration sucks. The sound system sucks. It has rattled from day one and the PO couldn't get them to find or fix the problem. The seats suck. The gas mileage sucks. The CVT could suck the Mississippi back up to Minnesota. It over heats on the hills in flat as a runway model Kansas. The headlights suck. It rides OK. It has less legroom than our small sedan.

At least it has 4 doors.

Zeke 10-26-2018 02:20 PM

Owned a lot of cars based on desire and interest. Brand never influenced me. But Chevy trucks are my choice. Have had one or another all of my adult life starting a 18. 73 now.

KFC911 10-26-2018 02:24 PM

I'm as loyal to cars as I am to Rennlist ;)
