Hah, input. I can regularly go down to the Capitol, sit in the office of my "representative," and explain at length to them how their intended plan is going to be bad for the state, cost a fortune and have a profound, direct adverse impact on the poorest individuals here. No effect at all.

It does afford me the luxury of a protest vote every time in the presidential election, so there is that.

There were problems with the ballots and voting here too.
Sounds like NYS! We elected a socialist and a rapper. Going downhill fast.

Blue wave???

Looks to me more like a blue surf foam! Right now (8:00 Wednesday morning), the dems only have the house by one seat! We'll see what they can get done with a super slim majority. The conservatives kept the senate and even gained a seat or two. At least they still have the power to put in more constitutional oriented supreme court justices!

Regardless of your politics, one must recognize that the "blue wave" simply did not happen. Barely enough to take the House.

About half as many as Clinton and Obama lost at midterm...and a gain in the Senate with will provide a much better ability to confirm Judges (likely a 3rd SC Judge). Not really a big blue night...and the President is celebrating.
tough break? no, I'm sorry but things went quite well for me. as a home owner in both ca and nc, I rather like how things went. nc is looking quite blue and gavin got the call in ca. not sure how Duncan hunter won however? only a parf con type would vote for a dope that was also indicted and facing a long list of charges. smh

I'm glad to see the high turnout - somehow, someway we need to work together.

I live in IL and hated both candidates for governor. I only see more financial turmoil for the state.

Sure got a LOT bluer here locally yesterday. Caught everyone by total surprise....myself included. And it wasn't even close for two of 'em...they're still as shell shocked as everyone else...NEVER saw it coming. I have no problem with the results...just still in disbelief...sorta.

Yup. Sadly the vast majority of candidates on either side have no interest in doing so, only continuing to play the role of monkeys throwing poo while padding their own pockets. I wish the founding fathers had install a "fire them all" voting option.

It was great to vote yesterday!

My favorite vote, other than for our governor who would make an excellent President but will never run, was Ballot question 2 which mandates a 15-member commission of Massachusetts residents form to explore a path to repeal the 2010 Supreme Court decision, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.

It passed of course. The commission, in one state, is meaningless, but it's an important first step in getting money out of politics.

I think one of the few things that will save our country from fulfilling Mike Judge's prescient film, Idiocracy, is some form of publicly funded elections. Combined with real limitations on K Street, we might have a chance.

I know, I know, you can argue that these changes curtail the First Amendment, and there is some validity to that argument. But the Constitution is not a death sentence either. Definitely a Catch 22 any way you look at it.

Yup. Born and raised just one hour from Moscow. Idaho.

I have lamented the idiocy of the American voter. I have also had tears of pride on my cheeks at their decision(s).

Back to the thread topic: Yesterday, regardless of outcome, I was once again proud of this country. Everyone's perspective is different. And yet, we all want much the same outcome. Prosperity. Security. Fairness. But yeah, we disagree on how to achieve those things. Remarkably vigorously these days. But then.....go to the polls and vote our preference, based on our conscience and perspective. That's how we do it, and it's a beautiful thing.

Perspective: Lots of nations have people with guns standing around the polling stations. Others have no polling stations. Ours are guarded by old women knitting.
