Incredibly talented man who was overlooked because he wasn't stuck up on himself.

I really don't think he was overlooked by his peers and folks like us though. Just an awesome talent...having fun...and it showed

There are a lot of "lists" out there that he is excluded from because he was just the guy on Hee Haw. There are also a lot of people on those "lists" because of marketing.

That said, the places that cared about talent always had nothing but good and very respectful things to say.

I always liked Hee Haw as a kid, one of my first crushes was Cathy Baker (the blonde who was always petting the hound dog). I really liked Buck and Roy, but Roy was my favorite.

I didn't know they didn't get along very well off screen until yesterday when I read this in one of Roy's obits...

"The show was a carefree joy — on screen, anyway. I mentioned one disagreement between Clark and Owens. There was more.

Owens was determined Clark should not get more time on camera. In Eileen Sisk’s Buck bio, she said the star had one of his cronies sit around with a stopwatch to time their camera time.

In his autobiography, “My Life-In Spite Of Myself,” Clark described his partner: “He wasn’t a laid back country boy I felt comfortable being around. He was — very opinionated, very set in his ways, very dollar conscious. Buck is just a strange guy.”
I had met Buck at a business conference in Bakersfield where he spoke. he was pretty standoffish and wealthy (owned the local radio stations and Crystal Palace). I think Buck was worth $40m when he passed.

I didn't realize until today that he was a drag racer as well.

Reminds me of Vivian Vance not liking William Frawley on "I Love Lucy."
