No real need for a placard, as you will be up and running in a few days. Is it a dk move to park in a handicap spot ?
I don't think so. I have given temporary placards after injury or surgery. The temp ones are red here, permanent are blue. They all have expiration dates. You also can get disabled license plates, in addition or as an alternative to the one hanging from the mirror. I have had a disconcerting number of people that have reported the placard stolen.

I guess there is a deleted post?

One more thing, being able to open your car door fully is impossible in the general parking lot. Even if you park way out, some dickwad pulls in next to you (this has been discussed ad infinitum here). One could take up 2 parking spots but the post-it and chalk wielding crowd couldn't wait to out you as some parking lot ethics traitor.

I once had some fun when I was walking into a store from the lot just as a shopper finished unloading their cart and pushed it right into a handicap space. So in front of many shoppers coming and going, I said loudly to this idiot, "You gonna leave that there so the person with a disability has to get out and move it?"

I got laughs and chuckles from the nearby but do you think this jerk did anything?

Not. I moved it.

No. Only people with a placard or handicap tags are allowed to park there. Even if the person is in a wheelchair, and has lost their legs in Iraq or Afghanistan while earning a Medal of Honor, without the permit, they are not supposed to park there.

This time was way better as I pulled into the Walmart parking lot and found an open handicapped place right near the front! Yea! As I was shutting things down I noticed to semi tough looking guys staring at me and the car and I was trying to decide if they were "A" police or "B" car boosters or "C" ????? So I shut down and opened the door and was getting my cane out when one walks over with a small ID holder in his hand and flips it open showing his sheriff's badge and ID card with picture. He explained they were on duty and checking for valid handicapped ID/license/placard. I pulled out the wallet and showed him the "white paper" you are supposed to carry if you have the plates which we do. He said you're the first today and I noted that is why there are so many open places and he laughed and said 25 tickets so far! Starting fine is $250 and in Chula Vista the judges usually make it $500 as the 250 is just a starter.

First time I have ever been asked about it!

I had a nice run in a couple of months ago.

A friend of my wife lives on the edge of a pretty bad neighborhood, known for gang activity drugs etc...

Her teenage daughter had broken down at the corner gas station, car was not running right down on power. It was a Saturday, mom was working and she texted my wife to see if I could go see what was up.

I got the car running, and had her limp it home with me following.

Once home I ran back to my house and got my code reader to see what was up, I went back to her house and figured it out to be a bad sensor.

When I was leaving her house, I pulled up to a corner to turn onto the main road, I noticed a patrol car off a ways sitting on the side of the road.

I stopped, looked then turned and went on my way. I ended up with patrol car behind me following, no big deal, then he lit me up.

I pulled into a parking lot he told me he pulled me over for rolling through the stop sign, I stopped I was not going to argue, I handed him my DL and other papers he looks down and saw my fake ID, busted out laughing, and asked to see it.

He asked where I got it I told him he told me to make sure I stop at stop signs and let me go.

He was not concerned about the stop sign, he was checking to see if I was in the hood buying drugs, I knew that I was not about to get pissy with him over it. In the end McLovin got me out of a stupid ticket and me getting a lawyer to get it erased.

One of my retired cop friends said in the days when he was in patrol, if he pulled over a kid, they always got a ticket or warning depending on how much too fast they were. If he pulled over some adult, and they were driving a high end expensive car like Mercedes, or Cadillac, they were ALWAYS in a hurry, so he took his time, and made them pay with time, and a fine. He knew the fine was no big deal, but making them late, because they were speeding, was a better lesson.

In my case "Mom" is my wife and bought the 1987 930 in 1998. It was not quick But it sure was fast, such as 65 in 1st, 110 in 2nd and 140 in 3rd! John Rickard of Black Forest in San Diego has been the only person to get to 7600 RPM in 4th and he told me even with those huge Turbo brakes it took 1/4 mile to fully stop with both feet on the brake pedal.

Oh yeah, in CA a doctor has to sigh your handicapped request and my doctor says she get lots of requests from "healthy" patients from Tijuana but turns them down. TJ has handicapped placards and plates now but I hear they are very hard to get and require an in-person interview at a police station?!
