the Ford Excursion.
whoa!!
you know my road show that is giving me heart palpitations..about public speaking? well, it is indeed upon us. we got a Ford Excursion to take the road-show equipment around this great State. one instructor (afraid to fly?) was all to happy to volunteer to drive. i picked it up, cleaned it and filled it with fuel. that is easily the most enormous vehicle i have ever piloted, that didnt say "PENSKE" or "UHAUL" on the sides. it is a big giant 4x4 SUV. it just feels huge. bigger than say a F350 pickup truck. blind spot for days..panoramic windshield view. how did that rig do for Ford? was it a good seller? i cant imagine the niche it fills. someone with lots of kids? i'm gonna sneak a bike into the thing..maybe some fishing gear..hehe. |
I don't think they sold them for very long.

I have a REALLY nice 2004 dark green Excursion with a low mileage (EGR deleted) 6.0L diesel Limited that has all the bells, and whistles. We love it as a family cruiser that alos pulls our 32' camper, and an occasional backhoe.
Ours has a 2" lift with 33" tires, and aftermarket wheels, all leather, with premium sound, and overhead DVD. Fully loaded on our recent Summer vacation to a mountain cabin, with 6 people, luggage and a bike rack, cruising at 75 mph, it still knocked down 18.5 MPG......love it. I don't think Ford wanted to keep making them for the fairly small audience, and they were alot of money to buy new. |
I had one very similar to ckelly.
An 04 I bought in 08, put 100k on it and sold for what I paid. They have a solid following. Ultimately I wanted a one ton to pull my camper so I got a pickup instead. I loved that rig. |
Friend owns a funeral home and has the big Escalade. Never know when you might need to inconspicuously haul a stiff.
|
A friend of mine used to have one. She is 4'11". Wish I could have snapped a pic of her in the driver's seat.

The majority of SUV drivers are female. I wish I had bookmarked some links of early discussions bashing SUV's as being "pointless macho", and "and catered to much to male ego". |
I hadn't heard that but that women liked them because they were safe, or the perception thereof anyway. When I was publishing Modern Dad magazine back in the 90s we had funny article on hot rodding your minivan.

Diesel Excursions are nearly at cult vehicle status. Especially the 7.3 diesels.

the Ford Excursion.
Similar to Jeep Wrangler, Chevy Avalanche, Ford Explorer Sport, Toyota FJ, they hold value because they are a unique setup with no real direct competition.
Anyone I’ve known with one uses it like ckelly. Long distance, heavy duty family truckster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yeah the minivan gets better mileage and hauls more.
Who would want to go 'off-roading' on a single lane dirt track (maximum 'offroad' or else get stuck in mud forever), in some bloated 8,000lb box which can't fit through the woods anyways? |
Had an 01 7.3 4x4 wish I never got rid of it. Now I have an 01 7.3 4x4 f350. And before the excursion can you guess that’s right 00 7.3 not 4x4 f250. Oh I also have wait a minute... an 02 triton v8 f150. Yes I’m partial to early 2000 fords. The ones I previously sold all had at least 350k miles and ran great time of sale. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Good luck towing anything with a minivan and no way you can fit more in them.
With the seats down and out it swallowed tons of stuff and pulled my 12k pound camper at altitude. I agree Matt, if I didn’t use my bed a ton I’d have one too instead of my pickup and I’d put a 6.7L in it. |
the Ford Excursion.
Plenty of companies are taking old excursion bodies and putting them on new truck frames. They use the new drivetrain and front end for the updated look. I’ve seen 2 around town and drool every time.

I wonder how much?

Nice puller for a track car. Sleep in it!

This is the only other vehicle that really compares to the Excursion. :D

Not sure what it costs to build one but I found an ‘11 with 28k miles for 55k. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
