Put one of my Mercedes W123's wagons on BaT

Just listed a 83' 300TD up on BaT. Need to thin the herd in the garage and thought I would give BaT a try, as it seems to bring more cash for these than Ebay.

That's a beautiful car, Von. Amazing colour too. I love those vintage station wagons.

Nice looking car but the speedometer has been changed. Do you paint them yourself or send it out? Color looks great, probably my favorite of all.

People on BAT definitely overpay for these. Should do well.

yea, speedo was changed twice, once when it was a year old and it quit with 13k miles on it they put one in with 60k miles at the dealership, then it was changed again for the one that is in there now. But it is all documented. So the mileage is off by maybe a few thousand at most. At least that is what it says, and by the condition of the car, it looks to be close.

Unless I'm misreading this, that would be 3 speedometers.

You should have disclosed that in the BAT listing, where it says 144k miles and 200 added by you. If you have documentation, include it. People pay a lot for cars over there based on condition and miles and sellers generally disclose a lot more than on ebay or craiglist. It's a community and having a good name there goes a long way in terms of selling your cars for good $$. I've never sold anything there but plan on it someday.

I've had more speedometers for old MB cars repaired than I can count, usually for broken odometers. Obviously, they break. For cosmetic reasons, I always have the needles repainted w that special VDO flourescent orange so that they all match. The pros who fix them all have this paint. The speedo in your car is a used one from a different car, one that was exposed to a lot more sun than the other gauges in the cluster, which incidentally also is not original to the car.

I've owned a half-dozen 123s, but never a TE and never a diesel. If this was an M110 gasser I'd probably be interested.

There have been a few relatively inexpensive W123 coupes on CL that I've wanted to pick up, clean up and put on BaT. Just no time.

Pretty car, good luck with the auction.

Nice looking car and seems to be attracting some attention. I’ve had two no-sales on BaT, like all auctions it’s dependent on having the right lookers at the right time.

You'll do well on BaT. The not-so-secret is to be on top of the comments and answer everything, good and dumb questions alike, professionally and as respectfully as you can stand it. You know your stuff when it comes to Mercedes, you will have no problems. Nice car !
