I'd been following Spirit and Opportunity closely up until about 5 years ago. Squirrel!

This is kind of a bummer, but to be expected eventually. I wonder how long they actually thought it might last vs how long they'd warrant it for? I'm sure there was a big FOS built into it, but this was pretty impressive.
