Still not watched it yet, looking forward to it.

Had a family road trip to the area all planned out for the Christmas break

It will have to wait until my kids are over 18 as they are not old enough to visit the exclusion zone

I watched the entire series again on Sunday, rainy day. Really, really well done.

My Father, a Nuclear Physicist (I know, imagine his surprise at my math SAT scores) was a player at the heart of the Chernobyl era: Ran the Bomb Plant in SC, DC time as the XX for YY, etc.

My wife and I keep thinking: What did Bob know? He had to be tracking every bit that was known. I bet it would have been insightful.

I miss him every day.

Fascinating show. It's a chilling account of the event.

Paul, I too thought about your Pop. And I'm sure you do.

I work on Nuclear medicine cameras and I know many Nuclear Technologists.
The ones that have seen it just say "wow".

I rarely respond vocally to movies or tv shows, but I found myself blurting out many times during this series. It's difficult to fathom the closeness it came to a much, much larger scale disaster.

And I wonder how many times an SR-71 took a look, and from what angles?

Chernobyl and the events of Libya played a large part in my joining the Navy.
I felt hugely unaware of the world when those happened.

Sept '86, raised my hand.

I am pretty sure no SR71 flew over that site. The SR71 never overflew USSR or Russia. We flew along the international border and looked in, but not that far in. Only satellites saw that part of the USSR.

Sammy once they are over 21, they don't need your permission.

Watched this last week.

Well done series. Big fan of the main guy who also played Moriarty in the recent Sherlock Holmes movies.

Felt a little depressed after watching it and had to cleanse the mental pallet with the complete Family Guy Star Wars trilogy.

99% of the info provided was in the last episode. The balance of the series, after the initial explosion, was very light on content.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

And the content was largely inaccurate from a scientific standpoint, according to my nuclear physicist ex-colleague who went in a posting tizzy during the show ;-) But it was great TV nevertheless...

I saw it a couple weeks ago. Accurate or not, it was the best Ive seen on the situation. I can not imagine what it was like for the Russian people at the time.

As soon as I read that...I realized I had completely spaced that fact. Thank you.

I'm sure there are factual inaccuracies of some of the technical aspects, and much more artistic embellishment on the human touch. But younger folks today could almost watch this as a near life story and not be too far off base.

The difficult part is calculating an accurate number of lives directly impacted.

That's not really possible.

Their government did everything they could to cover up what was happening. I doubt we'll ever know.

A Russian woman claimed online more than 400,000 direct and indirect deaths. I don't really believe that but I could easily be over 100,000.

I was 15 when we visited to the Belarus Exclusion zone, none of our parents were present. Maybe rules have changed.
