For the $1200 the replacement will cost I can buy 5 of these. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dyna-Glo-5-Burner-Open-Cart-LP-Gas-Grill-in-Stainless-Steel-and-Black-with-Side-Burner-DGF510PBP-D/302774518 I used one on Memorial Day and they can be made to get insanely hot compared to the Weber. Sear steak properly or cook pizza hot. If it lasts 2 years it’s still better value... |

My Weber is 37 years old....
Bought it at Builders Emporium on Azusa Ave & San Bernardino rd. in March 1982 on sale for $39.95. It had previsously been at Ralph's Grocery stores..the tag on it. My dad bought sprinkler system components there when he was landscaping the house in Glendora in the late 50's. Soon after I bought the Weber BE went bk. These are made in the USA, are very neat , useful and high quality (individual replacement parts are available, too). I have many of them, including the supersized one in the link, and have used them daily for years.

I used to have a branding on the inside of my cabinets that says "Made in Los Angeles". I haven't done it in a long time. All of our plywood is from the pacific northwest but all our hardware are from Germany (normally) or Italy. We just installed a pocket door using a Swiss made hardware. Great stuff. I try and buy quality produce so it doesn't matter where its made.

All of my "metrology" gear is older Starrett (mostly USA made).
The one on the left was made in the Jedburgh, Scotland Starrett factory.

To quote Dylan from 35 years ago...one of my favorite albums with Mick Taylor and Mark Knopfler... Self-inflicted in order to gain access to their markets...corporate america greed at it's fine$t hour .Some farmers literally bet their farms over the past couple of decades too....hogs and soybeans...now they have NOBODY to sell too? I called and they told me to leave them out in the sun. I said "I thought they were laser measure for fit, mine don't fit, they're too loose."

'' No. For a time West Coast Cycle assembled and marketed Nishiki bicycles in the United States, but they have never been manufactured there. They were manufactured in Japan by the original manufacturer until the 1980s, and afterwards their bicycles for the American market were manufactured by Giant in Taiwan until the brand was discontinued in the 2000s.'' I do not know where that sticker was made but all bits are jap |

Interesting reading the comments on floor mats.
In the 14 years of ownership (so far) I have never used floor mats in my '02 Silverado. It is my work truck and in my line of work (landscaping) I certainly do my share of work in dirty conditions. Not so much mud - I avoid working in those conditions pretty much. Plus our soils here are more sandy than anything else. I get mostly shell on my floor board than anything else and just use a whisk broom to sweep it out periodically. I think I have mats in my Porsches though - just OEM carpet versions. They don' get very dirty though.

And does anyone have trouble getting their mats unbuttoned from the door? Seems I nearly have to rip the carpet out getting them off. I don’t even bother buttoning them down anymore because I’m pretty sure one of these days my carpets will get really damaged

In terms of clothing, I have a few pieces from www.american-giant.com and hoodies from Flint and Tinder.
Heck even J.Crew has some T-shirts made in LA. Some of the items at www.taylorstitch.com are made here, but not all. I have a few of them. A few pants from www.jomers.com are made here. I have two. For clothing, the question is, are they any better than made in China? Probably not, if using the same materials. I have a few Allen Edmonds shoes that are made here. Again, here, it is more the way it's made rather than where it is made. Apparently there are guidelines for saying "made in USA", so some just say built/assembled in USA from imported materials. |
