My First Officer took this photo last night coming down the east coast of Florida at 38,000 feet. My camera just couldn’t do it. His could. Just under the aircraft is Kennedy Space Center, so in the immediate foreground you see Cape Canaveral, then Cocoa Beach, then onward south down through the myriad smaller coastal towns (including my town - Stuart), before the Palm Beach/Broward/Dade megalopolis way down there. - all the way to south Dade. To our right you can see the dark farmland and ranch land and then Orlando. Far off to the right, all the cities of the west coast of Florida. And trust me… What our eyes saw was infinitely more impressive than this picture. About 2/3 of the entire state of Florida in one shot. One of the clearest nights I’ve ever seen in Florida, and I’ve been doing this airline pilot thing for 33 years. |

^^^ Excellent clip and all true...never balled it up but "illusions" has he talks about them are real.
I have had three bird strikes in aircraft, one in a T-34C and two in an SH-60B. The eerie one was a had a bird strike on the INSIDE of the jet engine intake on the H-60 when I was on NVG's. The Army designed in an "Inlet Particle Separator" and I only knew about the strike after we shut down and were doing our post flight with the Plane Captain "Uh, LT, come take a look..." |
